One mic trying to do three jobs is always interesting.

Is XLR-only a downside, or does it make a budget mic feel more serious?

The FiFine Tank 1 is not plug-and-play.

You need an interface or mixer, so the mic is only part of the real cost.

But weirdly, that also gives it a more professional feel. It’s solid, clear, has useful tone switches, and I was impressed enough to use it for the dialogue in the review.

The AKG P170 is not the kind of microphone people usually brag about.

But that might be exactly why I like it.

It’s affordable, it handles serious SPL, it works on hi-hats, overheads, acoustic guitar, and it quietly earns its place.
