Hello Folks!

I'm running kinda behind myself over here at the busy editorial offices of the Blackfly Gazette - So much going on!

Sorry for the late update, but there is a current issue of the Blackfly out right now, and I am working on the new issue to come out later this week.

In the meantime, it's time for a Municipal Election for citizens to vote on candidates they feel will best represent their interests as well as their hopes for the future of our Village.

It pays to know as much as possible about your candidates, and you can meet them this evening at the Village Bandstand!

Also socialize, enjoy refreshments & a hot dog BBQ (by donation, proceeds to go to Making a Difference Food Bank)

This is tonight, Tuesday May 5th at 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, at the Perth-Andover Bandstand. See you there!

Hello Blackfly Friends & Readers!

I've just gotten home from Plaster Rock after attending the matinee show of this play, Popcorn Falls, and I want y'all to know that this first-ever production by the Fiddlehead Players Community Theatre is an absolute hoot and you should definitely see it if you can!

There's a 7 pm show tonight & another matinee tomorrow (Sunday) at 2 pm. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and chuckled throughout...I'll have a big write-up in the upcoming gazette (out this coming week) but wanted to give this a big ol' shout-out now while you have time to catch this show!

I'll be back later with a recap & photos of the current issue of the Blackfly, just wanted to send this message ASAP!!!

Cheers!

Happy New Year!

It's back in the saddle again over here at the busy publishing house of the Blackfly Gazette: I took a couple of issues off through the holidays and after Christmas lull, but the Gazette is back with a new issue, the first issue of the year, and it's available at all the regular outlets in Perth, Plaster Rock and Arthurette.

In this issue: A recap of the wonderful Christmas Concert at Burns Hall where folks enjoyed treats, music and a hilarious skit written by 11 year old August Buettner. Based on the famous Christmas Carol "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer, the parts were played by members of August's family. August has also written and self-published 4 graphic novels which you will find at the P-A Public Library - Terraformasters Volumes 1,2 & 3 and Zack the Zip Dog VS the Giant Robot on Bell Ave. which are all pretty hilarious...

More stuff in this issue: Bridgeview Treasures Thrift Store update, Elks Lodge news, a painting workshop at the Arthurette Legion, and info about upcoming events such as the upcoming SV Pipe Band Fundraising Dinner.

This issue also features the first part of "The Ghosts of the Maliseet Trail", an original story written by Neqotkuk author Ryla Duska-Rose Nicholas, part two will be in the next issue of the Blackfly.

The pet page features the SPCA Volunteer of the Year as well as some lovely critters looking for their furever homes, as well as all the other regular features.

Happy Holidaze Blackfly Friends & Readers!

As I write this update Old Man Winter sure is having a field day with this first real snowstorm of the season....it's a good day to curl up & get some paperwork done!

The latest issue of the Gazette is out & about & currently available at stores in Perth-Andover, Plaster Rock & Arthurette. Stories & articles in this edition of the Blackfly include pix & info about some of the wonderful Christmas Craft Bazaars that have been happening around & about: The P-A Christmas Market at the Elks Lodge was packed with shoppers & lots of vendors & was great fun!

The annual Hotel Dieu Christmas Craft Fair had vendors stretched along every corridor making for an adventurous shopping mission with many cool items & services.

The Christmas Bazaar at the Arthurette Legion had many vendors & lots of cool stuff and had an artist I had not yet met: Amanda Wright had a brilliantly colorful display of her art. She works in multiple mediums including collage, recycling colorful pieces cut from sources such as old magazines to create a stained glass effect: I love the dragonfly piece I bought!

I don't know if any more Christmas Bazaars are gonna take place, but you can contact most local crafters on social media if you missed them at the market.

A new record was set during the annual Santa Merry Mile Run, downtown businessman Chris McGuire has taken on an apprentice at McGuire's Barbershop: High School student Alex Hopkins commutes from Wicklow every Saturday to learn the trade & craft of barbering.

Check out the gorgeous seasonal plants & flowers at Plant's Flower Pot, where you will also find hand painted greeting cards as well as artwork & products made by local artists & artisans.

The bottle depot has a new owner & now recycles more stuff like small appliances and you can also arrange to have large appliances picked up and hauled away.

There's more, plus of course all the regular Blackfly features & columns.

Hope you enjoy this issue & thanks for reading!
