to know me is to know i love making meals from cookbooks and recipe blogs, so it caught me off guard when i started noticing parents in my community relying more on AI to support their family meals. a huge thank you to for publishing my piece unpacking why parents are turning to Chat and what gets lost when optimization is prioritized at the dinner table! (featuring the bizarre unsolicited copilot prompt that led me to really dig in and investigate this idea)

few things fill up my cup quite like a trip back to my hometown. i’ve been going to the only cafe and la hacienda since high school, and always just feel so much more at ease when i can sit in these spots that change but keep their essence of peterborough. we got out to lakefield for ice cream, which is something i used to do on bike rides with my brother and my grandpa, so it’s always very meaningful to take my kids to these spots 🩵

sorry, i’m still over here being sentimental about ten whole seasons of the podcast! on this week’s newsletter, i reveal its origin stories, and reflect on the shifts from audio toward video, the cultural cringe associated with podcasting, and the community i am so forever thankful for that has come from this work. link where it always is! (added bonus for IG: behind the scenes footage over the years lol)

received my copy of the new DIGEST publication on food and body by today! it arrived at a perfect time, just as i was heading out to pick up my son from daycare 🍼 i wrote this piece in the thick of pregnancy, frustrated by the limitations of my body & my appetite, and dreaming of a time where i could feast on all the taboos. a huge thank you to for this opportunity to write a bit of a fever dream piece! 💕

So delighted to share that I’m a featured expert on the new National Geographic series, Mysteries of Ancient Medicine! The show is redefining what we thought we knew about early medicine, using a fresh take to explore how magic, medicine, and mythologies collide in how people cared for each other in ancient times.

This marks my first time being on television, which feels surreal after growing up enamoured by tv series just like this. I’ve learned so much, and had the most fun in the process (even if we’re looking at the strange, ingenius, and sometimes terrifying healing traditions of the ancient world). Catch the show on Thursdays this May from 9-11 pm EST on in the US! A huge thank you to and for this opportunity of a lifetime!

as my daughter gets older, i’m trying different ways of hanging out together that feel most like us. unsurprisingly, cafes & books & catching up on drama & asking her about her creative goals is a very very nice way for us to be together. it’s a little weird seeing big parts of your own personality and way of moving through the world in your kid, but i’m so glad we get each other better because of it🩵

Writer unpacks the idea that food brings people together in her new book, Tell Me How You Eat. She points to ways that food is a powerful tool for dividing or making hierarchy, and asks what happens when we bring more specifics to the idea of food being a unifying force. listen to the full interview on AnthroDish, out on major podcast platforms and YouTube!

there can be a tendency to reduce narratives around disordered eating and feminism to particular tropes. and as my guest this week, shares, there’s so much more at stake when we’re talking about eating through a feminist lens. listen to the full episode to learn more!

in this week’s episode, i spoke with writer on her brilliant new book, tell me how you eat: food, power, and the will to live. Amber explores some of the ways that appetites can be re-examined, and challenge persistent tropes of eating that narrow down to individual choices. using socialist and feminist lenses, she speaks to food movements and moments in history that have revealed reasons to eat and live, and the empowerment that comes from using food as a question rather than an answer. listen to the episode wherever you get your podcasts, out now!
