Are you passionate about local journalism and community building?
Freshet News is currently accepting Expressions of Interest for our inaugural Board of Directors.
We’re looking for volunteers who want to support the future of local journalism in Burnaby, New Westminster and the Tri-Cities, as well as the long-term sustainability and growth of our news outlet.
Freshet News was founded in October 2025 by four veteran community newspaper reporters. We are the first non-profit news co-operative in Western Canada that’s union supported.
Besides our printed newspaper, which is currently published twice a month, we also have:
• a website (freshetnews.ca)
• Sunday newsletter
• podcast (Freshet Friday)
We cover news about city halls, school boards, businesses, events, the arts and sports.
We are seeking board members with non-profit experience who have the following backgrounds to help guide our organization and be local journalism champions:
• legal
• financial
• newspaper
Applications close Sept. 1, 2026.
New volunteer board members will be nominated/elected at Freshet News’ AGM in early 2027 for a one-year term.
Board meetings are virtual, so candidates must have a suitable internet connection. The number of meetings per year will be determined at a later date; however, directors will be reimbursed for their expenses.
Email us your cover letter and resume: [email protected].
