Our Story
The North Island Gazette publishes every Wednesday morning, with a paid circulation of about 2,500 and a market pe*******on of more than 70 per cent in Port Hardy, Port McNeill, Port Alice, Alert Bay, Sointula and other communities along the northern tip of Vancouver Island. The North Island Gazette was established in 1965, in Alert Bay and was named best all-round newspaper in Canada in its circulation category in 2010 by the CCNA. The Gazette is the local paper in the true spirit of community papers, featuring local news, editorial, sports and community information. The award-winning Gazette Hamper Fund gives back to the community every Christmas as food, toys and cash are collected to provide Christmas hampers for families in need. Besides Port Hardy, Port McNeill, Port Alice, Alert Bay and Sointula, our extended coverage area includes Telegraph Cove, Woss, Winter Harbour, Zeballos, Holberg, the Broughton Archipelago and Bella Bella.
