Last night was a dream come true, and I have Josh Wynn to thank for that.
Never in my life did I think something I wrote and directed would make it into a theater and play on the big screen in front of a sold-out crowd. When I started my professional career in 2006, it felt like a pipe dream. I got used to seeing my work on small screens—70 inches at most, maybe a little bigger—but that was it.
Over the years, I’ve attended festivals, won some awards, and even shared an Emmy nomination with some incredibly talented editors. But this was different. This felt bigger than any accolade or recognition I’ve received before.
Willis Rd. started as just another short film—a passion project made on a budget of only $480 (not including equipment). The plan was simple: finish it, put it on my YouTube channel, and use it as another example of my work as a filmmaker while showcasing the amazing talent involved.
Somewhere along the way, though, it became so much more than that.
Willis Rd. stopped being my film and became our film.
Over more than a year of shooting, long nights, countless challenges, and a lot of laughs, this cast and crew became a family. Every person who gave their time, talent, energy, and belief to this project helped bring it to life in ways I never could have imagined.
Seeing the film on the big screen last night was incredible, but what made it truly special was looking around the theater and knowing how many people poured their hearts into making it happen.
I also want to give a special thank you to Josh Wynn and the cast and crew of Not There for allowing us to share the screen with them. If it weren’t for their generosity and support, this opportunity would never have happened. Thank you for believing in Willis Rd. and helping make a lifelong dream a reality.
To every cast member, crew member, supporter, friend, and family member who encouraged us along the way—thank you. This moment belongs to all of us.
I’ll never forget last night, and I’ll never forget the people who made it possible.
