Trigger Warning: Child Loss
Little 4 year old boy from Ivujivik passed away after negligence from nurses and doctors in Ivujivik and Puvirnituq Qc Canada.
Jusi’s parents and family had been seeking medical help for his stomach pain, multiple times for him since July 15. Nurses kept refusing to properly see him, giving him Advil and Tylenol. For more than two weeks, his parents and family continued asking for help but the medical staff kept sending him back home. On August 3, Jusi passed away at only 4 years old on his parents lap.
Many Inuit/Indigenous families have experienced medical neglect and have been speaking up for years about the lack of proper medical care in Indigenous communities. People are sent home while still sick, have their symptoms dismissed, wait too long to be transferred, and have to ask for help over and over again before being taken seriously which puts the lives of our community members at risk.
People living in Nunavik should have access to the same level of medical care as anyone else living in Québec. If medical staff refuse to help and neglect patients who are repeatedly asking for help, licences should be revoked as well as preliminary hearings as it would be done if it’s in the south.
