October 22nd…
Six weeks after September 11th, I found myself at a crossroads. The company I worked for had to close after a string of misfortunes. I faced a choice: risk losing the loyal client base I had built over six years—and the career I had shaped around it—or take a leap of faith and start my own audio post facility.
The journey since has been filled with challenges, triumphs, remarkable growth, occasional setbacks, and significant transformations. I even stepped outside the industry for a while. Yet, I soon realized that no other work could ignite the same passion and drive within me.
For over three years now, I have rebuilt my studio and committed fully to working in it. Initially, the shrinking number of traditional media outlets, the rise of new technologies—including AI—and the rapidly changing landscape seemed poised to make finding rewarding work harder than ever. However, the reality turned out to be quite the opposite.
Yes, projects perpetually move faster while budgets get tighter. But these pressures have pushed me to innovate my workflow, methods, and mindset continuously. Advances in technology and the availability of affordable, high-speed internet have enabled me to build a top-quality studio at a fraction of the cost, allowing me to work from my hometown of Quebec instead of downtown New York. I’ve streamlined staffing, doing more of the hands-on work I love most. Hardware and software advancements keep me curious and energized.
Above all, I take pride in elevating the material I work on to unprecedented levels, making moving images more vivid than ever, solving challenges once thought impossible, and ultimately gaining greater control over my creative output.
