✨ Let Your Story Shine Through the Lens ✨

On this , I'm reflecting on the profound power of therapeutic photography, a journey I've had the privilege to share with incredible youth and individuals facing addictions and mental health challenges up north.

Just like Robin Williams reminded us, "Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be kind. Always." Photography offers a unique space to explore those battles, find strength, and express what words sometimes cannot. It's about seeing yourself, truly seeing your resilience, and rediscovering your voice.

This is a powerful reminder that it's OK to ask for help, to share your experiences, and to actively reduce the stigma surrounding mental health. Through the lens, we can capture moments of healing, hope, and self-discovery, transforming personal narratives into powerful visual stories.

You are not alone. Your story matters. And sometimes, a photograph can speak volumes.

Couple books that are from Saskatchewan photographers.

Chris Attrell Photography actually has 2 books out now. He'll be having a 3rd one coming out soon I believe. I love this book from Chris because he's managed to capture certain places that no longer are around.

Dre Erwin Photography has this little lovely book that's great for kids. Or adults haha. I enjoyed it. "Dre uses therapeutic photography...... with the focus on addictions, mental health......" reading those few words from the back of his book really spoke to me. Majorly!!!

About 10 years ago, I had a major breakdown. My life was in major shambles. While I fell apart, it affected others, especially my son Andrew. I knew my life was in Ruins and that I needed help. Despite going and receiving counseling and therapy and my psychiatrist. There was quite a while I majorly struggled. I was putting myself at risk even more so mentally, emotionally, and physically than I already was. I'm ashamed to admit I did turn to drugs and alcohol. I became very suicidal. It scares me to this day, how close I came.

Eventually with the help from my one counselor, Erin and my psychiatrist 💜🤗☺️ things started to turn around. I had a lot of hard work to do but if it wasn't for them I don't know where I would have been. Erin was the one who really encouraged me to take up photography as she knew that was something that interested me. I started using photography and art as a way to express myself. I hated journaling. So what I would do is I would take an image that I photographed and alter it slightly to convey what I was feeling. Either by putting another image on top or putting words to it.

Photography has been a major lifeline. It's my hobby, it's my passion.

What if photos could dream? This is what it might look like. ✨ A moment to pause, watch the sky paint itself, and just let time pass.

From the frozen shores of Pinehouse Lake, Northern Saskatchewan, on a winter night when the sky comes alive.
There's a special kind of magic in the deep cold when the aurora starts its dance. I wanted to take that raw, wild beauty and translate its energy into thick, vibrant brushstrokes. This isn't just a scene; it's a feeling.

AURORA ALERT! 🌌

Heads up, Canada and the northern US! The same geomagnetic storm (Kp 5) that gave Europe a show is still active, and we could be next.

Based on the attached NOAA forecast, the Northern Lights may be visible tonight, potentially reaching as far south as the red "View Line" on the map.

Find a dark spot away from city lights, look north, and be patient! The show could fire up at any time. Clear skies! ✨

And just like that, September skies are in the books. 📖✨

This month brought some incredible light shows to Saskatchewan. I spent countless hours out in the cold for this shot 🥶, and it was worth every single second.
Thanks for following along on this month's adventures! I'd love to know, what was the most beautiful thing you saw in September? Let me know in the comments! 👇

WOW! Take a look at these spectacular photos of the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) captured last night in Pinehouse, Saskatchewan! 💚✨

These incredible shots were taken by a talented member of the former Pinehouse Photography Club. Thank you for sharing the beauty of our home with the world!

On this day, we reflect on the deep connection that First Nations and Métis peoples have always shared with the land and the sky. This display is a powerful reminder of the beauty, resilience, and light that shines within our community.
