Concrete Sask

Concrete Sask We represent over 60 concrete plants and approximately 90 percent of the ready mixed concrete poured in Saskatchewan. Concrete Sask.

(SRMCA) has been around since 1963 when it started out as the Prairie Ready Mixed Concrete Association. Then in 1983 the name was changed to the Saskatchewan Ready Mixed Concrete Association Inc. The Prairie name was dropped because Alberta (ARMCA) and Manitoba (MRMCA) had both started their own associations. The Prairie Region Mixer is now the official quarterly newspaper for the three organizati

ons. They work together on marketing, promotion, technical advancement, and training on an ongoing basis.

The backdrop might be fake, but the bragging rights are very real. ⛳️🏆

This year’s championship trophies are anything but ordinary.

Handcrafted by our Executive Director and her husband, each award features a custom concrete golf ball perched on a tee, creating a one-of-a-kind trophy. While a concrete golf ball might not help your game, it sure looks good sitting on your office shelf reminding everyone who came out on top.

Only one team will get to call themselves the 2026 Concrete Sask Golf Champs … will it be yours? ⛳🏆

Our golfers are in for a real treat this week ⛳️

A great golf tournament deserves great snacks, and we’re bringing a little taste of Saskatchewan to the course.

If you’ve seen the smoked trail mix craze, let’s give credit where credit is due, the OG is Stoughton Meat Market. Rory has been making this Saskatchewan favourite long before it became a trend and has put together individual packs for every golfer. Smoked meat, cheese, and all the goodness in between!

And for something sweet, Hillary from Sweet Cheeks in Estevan has created custom golf ball cake pops that are almost too cute to eat…almost. She goes above and beyond with every order, and these are no exception.

We’re proud to showcase and support incredible local businesses that make events like this even more memorable.

Now the only question is… do you eat the smoked trail mix first or save room for dessert? ⛳️🍖🧀🍰

Back at CASK and it didn’t disappoint! ⛳️

After a few years away, Concrete Sask was excited to be back at the Construction Association of Saskatchewan - CASK Summer Meeting & Golf Tournament and it was well worth the trip.

Yesterday we were busy pouring Ready Mix Ritas, Coffee & Baileys, catching up with industry friends, and proving that not even the wind, mosquitoes, or a bear sighting can slow down the construction crowd💪🍹🐻

A huge thank you to CASK for hosting another fantastic event and to everyone who stopped by our hospitality hole for a visit. We had a great time connecting, sharing a few laughs, and making new connections.

See you next year!

☕🍟 Ever wonder why some drive-thrus are made of concrete?

It’s not just about appearance, it’s about performance.

Drive-thrus experience some of the toughest conditions any pavement will see. Vehicles stop, idle, turn their wheels, and accelerate in the same wheel paths all day long, creating constant stress on the surface.

That’s where concrete shines.

Its rigid structure is designed to withstand repeated loading and help resist rutting and deformation over time, making it a durable, long-lasting solution for high-traffic commercial areas.

Next time you’re waiting for your morning coffee or picking up a quick bite, take a look beneath your tires, you might just discover one more place where concrete is built to perform 💪

IN THE DRIVER’S SEAT 🛞👷‍♂️

Meet Randy Bayko | W.F. Botkin Ready Mix

37 Years Behind the Wheel

Some careers become more than a job, they become a lifelong passion. For Randy Bayko, nearly four decades in ready-mix has meant being part of the projects that shape Saskatchewan communities.

Randy was introduced to the industry after working with another concrete company and quickly discovered he enjoyed the work and everything the industry had to offer. Thirty-seven years later, he’s still proud to be behind the wheel.

What keeps him motivated is watching projects come to life from the ground up. He enjoys seeing each stage of construction and appreciates the opportunity to continuously learn hands-on trade skills and new concrete placement techniques.

One project that stands out most is contributing to the construction of Loblaw’s over a two-year period a reminder that ready-mix drivers play an essential role in bringing major developments to life.

Randy believes one of the biggest misconceptions about the industry is that “concrete is just concrete.” In reality, every mix is engineered for a specific purpose, with technology and innovation creating products designed for countless different applications.

His advice for anyone considering the profession?
“You’ll either have a great interest in it, or it’s just not for you.”

And if given the chance to start over?

Absolutely. Randy enjoys being part of the construction industry, knowing he has a hand in building major projects and contributing to the communities around him.

Thank you Randy for 37 years of dedication and for helping build Saskatchewan, one load at a time.

Built on Leadership: The People Driving Concrete Sask Forward

Strong Associations are built by dedicated individuals who step forward to share their knowledge, volunteer their time, and help guide the future of the organizations and industries they care about.

Through our Built on Leadership campaign, we’re proud to highlight the members of Concrete Sask’s Board of Directors who help shape the direction of our association and support the growth, strength, and success of Saskatchewan’s concrete industry.

This week, we’re featuring Devin Rushton, Area Manager with Heidelberg Materials

1️⃣ What does being part of Concrete Sask’s Board mean to you?

“Being part of Concrete Sask’s Board is both an honour and a responsibility. It’s an opportunity to give back to an industry that has provided me with a rewarding career and to help shape conversations that support the future of concrete in Saskatchewan. I’m proud to contribute to an organization that works to strengthen our industry through leadership, education, and collaboration.”

2️⃣ What’s one reason you encourage others to engage with Concrete Sask?

“Concrete Sask provides a valuable platform for education, advocacy, and networking. Whether you’re new to the industry or have decades of experience, getting involved helps build connections, share knowledge, and strengthen both individual businesses and the industry as a whole.”

3️⃣ What do you think our industry does really well?

“Our industry does an excellent job of working together. Producers, contractors, suppliers, and industry partners recognize that collaboration is essential to success. Through Concrete Sask, we share best practices, support strong standards, and work collectively to address challenges and opportunities across the province.”

👏 Thank you, Devin, for your leadership, dedication, and commitment to helping move Saskatchewan’s concrete industry forward.

What If We Didn’t Have to Adapt to Potholes?

We’ve become so accustomed to potholes that entire campaigns are dedicated to teaching drivers how to avoid them and minimize the damage they cause.

What if the conversation started earlier?

Instead of asking how drivers can adapt to potholes, perhaps we should also be asking how our infrastructure can better withstand the conditions that create them.

Maybe it’s time to ask a different question:

Why are we spending so much time talking about how to avoid potholes and so little time talking about how to reduce them?

That’s why it’s important to consider solutions designed with long-term performance in mind.

Concrete pavement has been successfully used in some of North America’s harshest climates. When evaluated through a life-cycle cost lens, it can offer long service life, reduced maintenance, fewer disruptions, and durability under heavy traffic.

No pavement is maintenance-free, and no single solution fits every road or application. But if we’re spending more time talking about how to avoid potholes than how to reduce them, perhaps it’s time for a broader conversation.

Maybe the goal isn’t simply becoming better at navigating potholes. Maybe the goal is evaluating all available solutions and selecting the right one for the right project.

Concrete won’t be the answer everywhere. Neither will asphalt.

But when communities are looking for long-term performance and resilience in Saskatchewan’s challenging climate, concrete deserves a seat at the table.
