The legend goes like this.
Joseph Montferrand stood alone on the Union Bridge as more than 150 men rushed him… and he fought them off by grabbing one of them by the ankles and swinging him like a club.

Blood on the bridge. Bodies hitting the water.
It is one of the most violent and dramatic pieces of Canadian folklore I’ve ever come across.

But how much of this actually happened? And how did this story grow so big that it became a national legend?

This Canadian legend is said to have fought off 150 men by swinging one of them like a club. Blood, bodies, chaos, and a story that grew far beyond the truth.

He is often compared to Paul Bunyan, but this giant belonged to French Canada. His name was Joseph Montferrand, or Big Joe Mufferaw, and his legend still echoes through the Ottawa Valley.

Before the Hotel Saskatchewan ever welcomed royalty and rock stars, it was built from the bones of a failed dream - the steel skeleton of a ghost hotel that never lived.

Maybe that’s why so many spirits still linger in its halls, watching quietly from the shadows of luxury.

Some say the RCMP chapel in Regina is haunted — whispers in the pews, strange sounds when no one’s there.
