Duck Season ‘25-26 -

Another good one is in the books.. Here’s a few snaps from throughout this season. It sure started slow, until about thanksgiving week things started to get good as usual. Of course then Iowa season closed just as it was getting good so the traveling began.. Which about that time the weather thought it was May, not December. 70 degrees on Christmas is never a good thing in this game.
January was just odd, it was tough til the end. That cold front coulda showed up a couple weeks earlier but we made the most of it! Stale ducks changed their programs n it was a pretty greasy last week out west!

Already lookin forward to September 👌🏽

The day before, this roost was wide open and overnight it got down to -12 degrees if not colder.. so I decided to put on every piece of clothing I had with me and sneak in with my camera. Walking in the next morning I got over the bank and it looked all frozen with 6 swans in the middle keeping basketball size hole open.. and it was quiet.. I thought they left.. til I heard a swan and honkers they had a tiny hole open way on the far side.. so I snuck around n got as close as I could as it was getting light out. I proceeded to sit there for about 3-4 hours and just watched. It took them a while to wake up and start moving around. It’s cool seeing them do their thing to keep open water, grooming off all the ice from their feathers, and interaction with the honkers and swans. It amazes me what a duck will go through.. They could just migrate south, but they’d rather do this..

These days are comin..

It’s not everyday we shoot a limit of greenheads on the river, and it’s not everyday is back in town.. but they just so happened to line up on the same day late this last season.. Laid off the big flocks and Carter, Carter, and I picked away at small flocks one gun at a time. A gentleman’s hunt at its finest.
Thanks to for the first and last photo of me and quill dog, plus the plethora of other ones!
I’m ready for a rerun come December.

Canada is definitely one of my favorite places to chase waterfowl with and without a camera.. Never know what is just over the next hill, in the next wheat field…
It’s not everyday you get to see the rare whooping crane, let alone be close enough for a photo.
One trip I will never forget up north with and , hopefully be runnin it back here this fall 👌🏽

Had to dip into the archives a little bit to find some snow photos since it’s a blizzard outside right now i figured it was fitting.. Since it so rarely ever snows during duck season, I had to go back to 2020 to snag a couple from a nice gentleman’s hunt in an October snow storm. More snow days during duck season in 2025 is all I ask for 🙌🏼

September to February, 6 states, and about 8,000 photos in my 24-25 library.
From early season honkers with to late season greenheads in Western Nebraska at and a ton of good times in between! It was a hell of a season, it was tough at times ya, but when it was good, oh it was good..
I am going to start posting some photo series from throughout this past season.. Hopefully make it to the previous few seasons as well!

My dude Quill turned 7 last week.. With a summer spent on the DL for 3 months with surgery on his back left leg. We are back to runnin and he’s ready to get after some ducks! Excited for another season with him, not excited he’s gettin older though..
