Community Safety Expo and Panel Discussion happening this Sunday, May 25 !

This is a great opportunity for all of us to learn more about keeping our homes, vehicles, and neighborhood safe. You’ll also have the chance to speak directly with representatives from York Regional Police and all three levels of government about your safety concerns.

Lane closures expected, but road stays open

A big thank you to Sheung Kee Trading Co., a well-known food wholesaler in my ward, for their generous donation of 720 cups of instant noodles and 648 bottles of spicy sauce to the Richmond Hill Food Bank 🙌🤗 It’s great to see a local business giving back to the community. Your kindness is truly appreciated and will make a real difference for those in need 🙏❤️

In Canada, one in six individuals, nearly 6 million Canadians, grapple with food insecurity. Richmond Hill has been particularly affected, with a 50% increase in food bank usage in the past 12 months.

Dear Neighbors, here is the city's quick update on the snow removal work done as of Feb 20, along with the plan for the next few days 👇🏻

"Clean-up efforts and salting where required on the secondary road network continues with special focus on dead ends, courts, laneways, and other areas of concern where snow removal has already started. Snow removal will need to continue into next week.

Snow removal for the downtown core/rear laneways is ongoing and is considered priority work.

Primary roads continue to be assessed to determine if additional clean up or salting is needed. Overall, these roads are in very good condition.

Windrow service continues as needed on a complaint basis. I would note certain challenges with respect to resident expectations. At some point we will need to wind down the windrow deployment to focus all available resources on the sidewalks.

The most significant current challenge relates to sidewalks along regional roads and certain neighbourhoods. Given the accumulation, lack of snow storage space, and depth of snow on either side of the sidewalks, plowing has become less effective. As a result, we have had to convert a number of plows to blowers which, although slower, will allow the sidewalk machines to navigate the deeper snow. Sidewalk clearing will remain our highest priority activity going into the weekend.

Snowbanks are very high across the city, and this is hampering operations. Please encourage residents to be patient and drive safely."

Good afternoon. This is a brief update on the work completed on Feb 17 and the plan for tonight and tomorrow:

Sidewalks - The latest round of snow plowing started at 2 am and ended at 3:00 pm today. Crews will resume work at 3 am. The sidewalk plowing in some areas has become difficult due to lack of snow storage space and depth of snow accumulated. This means that some sidewalk segments could only be partially serviced and need to be plowed again in the morning.

City Parking lots and entrance ways are in very good condition. Further plowing and salting as needed will resume at 7:30 am.

Primary road network – Multiple full rounds of plowing and salting have been completed. Spot plowing and salting will continue tonight as needed. Most primary roads are now in very good condition – many are down to bare pavement.

Secondary road network – Multiple full rounds of plowing and salting are now completed with spot plowing and salting to continue tonight as needed. The secondary road network is mostly in good condition with approximately 80% showing some bare pavement.

Crews will continue until approximately 8 pm tonight and return at 7:30 am. High snowbanks in some areas are becoming an issue – particularly in the vicinity of road intersections with sidewalks. This means that some of these areas may remain messy tomorrow.

Windrow Service – Two rounds of windrow service on primaries and secondaries have been completed. This operation will continue into the night to deal with complaints and missed driveways. Note parked vehicles remain an issue in certain areas and this has impacted service delivery.

Wide bends and cul-de-sac – This work was delayed due by the late completion of the previous round. Work was impacted by some equipment breakdowns that are now resolved. Work is scheduled to resume at 10:00 pm.

Dead End Plowing – Work is mostly complete with snow removal scheduled for Tuesday to deal with storage issues.

Rear Laneways – Second round of plowing and salting is complete with snow removal scheduled for Wednesday

Snow removal in the downtown core/rear laneways etc. – Postponed to Wednesday morning given resource availability.

As always, we encourage you to forward any service requests and resident complaints to Access Richmond Hill so that they can be triaged and equitably prioritized.
