…if you visited in the summer time! ☀️🚵‍♀️☕️⛰️✨

welcome to rossland, some say it’s the last authentic mountain town in bc 😉 here are some of regular spots as someone who lives here year-round!

save this for your next trip

Sooooo good for breakfast, lunch, and dinner 😋 i’m obsessed with their fries, i definitely consume an unhealthy amount of them 🍟 also they have live music like almost every night which is so fun!

i pick up my sourdough from hooper’s every week, and usually leave with one of their giant sea salt chocolate chip cookies 😮‍💨🤤 they make different seasonal pastries & specials every week so you just have to pop in to see what they’re baking.

pro tip; they sell out often! go early around long weekends or holidays because everyone stocks up.

out by strawberry pass there are a bunch of volunteer built & maintained cabins on a sweet trail network 🍓 perfect for an after work hike or bike in the summer time

as you can see the cabins are a great spot to eat some charcuterie or play card games! they are day-use only cabins so keep that in mind and be respectful 🤝

duh 🍻

this is the local watering hole, no further explanation necessary.

i’ve already talked about how much i love the bagel sandwiches at alpine grind but i’m going to do it again 😋 the vibe inside is so cozy, but for summer i prefer the patio!

if the tables out front are full, they have a deck out back with a lot more outdoor seating!! woofie likes to hang out and people watch while i drink my coffee or munch on a bagel.

if pedalling uphill isn’t your jam (because there aaarreeee 200km of trails around town) then obviously the bike park has to be on your list!!

ngl i’m still trying to convince myself i like mountain biking but maybe if you visited and we went together it would help 😉

honestly, words can’t describe the dishes at gabriella’s 🤤 if you’re looking to treat yourself, call ahead and reserve the trip around italy, it’s like 7 courses of fresh made italian food from different regions and it’s TOO DIE FOR 🇮🇹

btw if you get the wine pairings too you will get crunk 👀

A bit of a late start to backpacking season this summer, I blame the snow! ❄️

A not-so-quick recap of 3 days in the backcountry with Ashley Voykin last week.

°❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・ Swipe for the recap 👉

This was my first time in Kokanee Glacier Provincial Park and it def won’t be my last. 🏔️ The views were stunning the whole way up! I never get sick of snow-sprinkled peaks. ✶⋆.˚

The first day was HOT! 🥵 Most of the hike up has no sun protection so we were definitely cooking.

My fav part was definitely the natural air-conditioning. Every time we hiked past a waterfall or creek, the breeze carried the cold water spray into the air, it was sooo refreshing. 😌

Made it to camp! ⛺

The sun did not go down, it was stolen away by the angriest storm clouds I’ve seen in a hot minute. There was only a 30% chance of showers, but even if there’s only a 1% chance, you best believe I’m packing a rain coat. Being soggy is the . 🫠

…and then came the thunder, and the lightning! ⚡The storm was right on top of us. Lightning lit up the whole sky as the ground rumbled beneath our feet.

Luckily, the Kaslo campground has a fancy shmancy enclosed cook shelter. We waited out the lightning playing bridge and reading Harry Potter (duh). ⚯ ͛

Woah, double rainbow across the sky! WOAAHH that’s so intense! What does this mean?!

On the way up to camp the custodian for the cabin nearby told us there are ‘some’ bugs…

Idk about you but this is a lot more than SOME bugs. 🦟

Pro-tip: purchase a Thermacell. I have the backpacker thermacell and if I didn’t bring it I don’t think Ashley and I would have spent nearly as much time chilling outside. We would have been SOO tent bound, or chewed up af. This thing literally creates a mosquito-proof BUBBLE surrounding it. 🫧 This is not spons, it is just seriously life changing.

If you go on an overnight backpacking trip and the campground serves as a base-camp for a few day-hikes, stay an extra night (if you can). I have never regretted staying an extra night and often regretted staying only one.

The day hikes usually bring you to places deeper and less popular, plus you get more time to unplug.

Look at these cool rocks! 🪨

weekending 🫈🌲

Bit of a late start to camping season this year but still getting out nonetheless. Oli & I actually met at Manning Park 5 years ago so this place will always be special to me, busy campsites, city dwellers & all. 🤭 Usually I enjoy getting really off-grid but it’s nice to do some stress-free ✨ glamping once in a while just to get outside and relax. This was Woofie’s first camping trip too! How cute that we took him to the place we met, almost exactly 5 years after we got together. 🥹

P.s. my fav hike at manning is Frosty, it’s punishing but has such amazing views and the most beautiful sunset! 🌅

P.p.s. you always HAVE to stop in Keremeos in the summer, fresh, local BC fruit at like 15 different farm stands! I got some tsitp reminiscent peaches 🍑 (ifykyk) but cherries are also in season right now!

you’re all caught up ♊️✨🪩🧁

sprained my ankle again. same ankle. third time. (are you tired of me talking about it yet? obviously i’m not) genuinely considering amputation at this point, i’ve had enough. robo-ankle?

i am not someone who is good at resting, morning gym & after work adventure; walk, hike, disc golf, something…ANYTHING. it’s just how i’m built, how I recharge, get my creative juices flowing and — i just like doing it.

also i literally just started training for a fall race when this happened 2 weeks ago. like JUST started it. (and it’s not healing quickly at aaalll) so now i feel behind and might not hit my goal and i know that’s not the end of the world but to me it feels like it.

the other thing is when i can’t be frolicking in the woods, on the mountains, and wherever else my feet take me, i get waaaayy too in my head. i start reflecting and reading and doing my little crafts which is great and fine but then i just get too introspective and it gets weird in there…

anyway, no lesson or hot take here just a girl with a busted ankle spending waaayy too much time thinking about things. if you’ve cracked the code on this pls drop it below because i am literally going crazy, like one of those sad cutie animals at the zoo. i genuinely think a doctor would diagnose me with zoocosis at this point… lol 🦓

plz tell me i’m not alone in this haha

earth 💚 my favourite rock

As someone who spends basically all my free time outside, I’m always trying to do my best to lower my impact on the environment. is inviting everyone to take part in earth month by sharing what actions they’re taking for our beautiful planet 🌎

✨ Some things I do: always LNT, eat a vegetarian diet, shop thrifted or used before buying new, repair broken gear instead of throwing it out, pick up litter I see on the trails, email my local representatives about environmental issues that concern me, and of course share my experiences in the outdoors to inspire others to get outside so that they can care about the environment too! 💚

POW is asking us to nominate 3 people as part of this initiative, but instead I’m going to nominate all of you reading this! I nominate you, to do something today, take action for the Earth.
