Indigenous Leaders Push Back as Trump Orders Lake Ontario Renamed “Lake America”
🪶🇨🇦 “This is our history.”

Indigenous leaders are speaking out after U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order directing the U.S. government to rename Lake Ontario “Lake America.”

The name Ontario has Indigenous roots and is more than 400 years old. Wendat Nation Grand Chief Pierre Picard says the move strikes at the heart of Wendat history, culture and identity.

Prime Minister Mark Carney has also rejected the change, saying Canadians will continue to call it Lake Ontario — “then, now and always.”

Canadian Astronaut Jeremy Hansen Makes History With America’s Top Space Honour
🚀🇨🇦 ANOTHER HISTORIC MOMENT FOR CANADA

Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen has received the Congressional Space Medal of Honor for his role in NASA’s historic Artemis II mission.

Hansen became the first non-NASA astronaut to receive the prestigious honour after becoming the first Canadian — and first non-American — to take part in a lunar mission.

During Artemis II, Hansen and his three crewmates travelled around the Moon and returned safely to Earth, helping set a new human distance record from Earth.

Doug Ford Sends a Powerful Message After Trump Renames Lake Ontario
🇨🇦 “Lake Ontario. Now and Always.”

Ontario Premier Doug Ford has responded to U.S. President Donald Trump’s controversial decision to rename Lake Ontario “Lake America” with a giant new sign near Grimsby.

Ford says the lake will “always be Lake Ontario” and that Canadians will continue to stand up for their sovereignty and identity.

The U.S. order applies to U.S. federal usage — but Canada has made its position clear: the name remains Lake Ontario.

Ontario is tightening eligibility rules for social assistance based on immigration status.
Under the changes, people who are living in Canada without legal authorization will no longer qualify for Ontario Works or the Ontario Disability Support Program. Applicants will have their immigration status verified as part of the application process.
Some people with recognized legal or pending status, including refugee claimants and others who are permitted to remain in Canada, may still be eligible.
The Ford government says the changes are intended to ensure taxpayer-funded assistance is directed to eligible Ontario residents and to bring provincial social-assistance rules more closely in line with federal immigration requirements.
