The 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, is a time to remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost and the countless families and communities forever changed. We also remember the compassion shown across Atlantic Canada. When American airspace closed, more than 2,000 passengers and crew were stranded in New Brunswick, while Halifax Stanfield welcomed 40 diverted aircraft carrying over 8,000 people. Communities across Prince Edward Island offered food, shelter, transportation, comfort, and support.
We remember the “Canada Loves New York” rally, organized to support New York City as its economy and tourism industry struggled. Thousands of Canadians answered the call with kindness and support.
As we remember the kindness shared in those difficult days, may we carry that spirit forward. Two nations, one enduring friendship. Times may change and circumstances may shift, but there is always time to listen, to understand, and to strengthen what connects us.
