One of my favourite parts of this job has nothing to do with marketing.

It's sitting across the table from a business owner and hearing their story.

How they got started. The leap they took. The mistakes they learned from. The moment they knew they were on the right path.

Every business has a story.

And I honestly don't think we tell those stories enough.

Some of my best ideas haven't come from sitting behind a computer. They've come from conversations over coffee.

No agenda. No sales pitch. Just two people talking about business, community, and where they're hoping to go next.

So here's my invitation...

If you're a local business owner and you've been wanting to bounce around an idea, celebrate a win, or even just chat about where your business is headed...

Let's grab a coffee. No pressure. No obligation. Just good conversation.

Some places don’t need a big sign screaming for your attention. They just have something about them.

The Lipton Trading Post is one of those places.

Every shelf tells a story. Local makers. Unexpected finds. The kind of shop where you wander in curious and leave wondering why you didn’t come sooner.

Small towns have a way of hiding the best things in plain sight.

If you’re ever rolling through Lipton, Saskatchewan, slow down for a minute. You’ll be glad you did.

Your business has a face.

Don't hide it.

One of the first things I suggested to a client last year was simple.

"Let's start doing a short video every week."

Nothing fancy. No expensive equipment. No perfect script. Just a quick video talking about topics she knew inside and out.

At first, she wasn't sure. Like a lot of business owners, she wasn't convinced people wanted to hear from her. But here's what happened. Her customers loved it. They finally got to hear the same friendly, knowledgeable person they had been talking to in the store.

New followers appreciated that she explained things in a way that actually made sense. She wasn't trying to sound like an expert. She was simply sharing what she already knew.

And people connected her.

Over the course of a year, her community grew from 850 followers to more than 1,100. Not because we chased trends. Not because every post went viral.
Not because we had a huge advertising budget, we did no ads.

Because people got to know her!

That's something I encourage almost every client to do. You don't need to be on camera every day. You don't need to dance. You don't need to memorize scripts.

But once a month? Once a week? Show up. Say hello. Answer a question your customers ask all the time. Share why you love what you do.

Because people don't just buy products and services. They buy from people they know, trust, and feel connected to. And no stock photo or AI-generated graphic will ever replace that.

Think you have to become a content creator to market your business?

You don't.

Some business owners love grabbing their phone and snapping photos throughout the day.

Which is awesome, and totally useful! They're authentic and customers love seeing them.

Others would rather not think about it at all. That's okay too.

If you need me to come out and take photos, capture videos, or gather content while you're doing what you do best, I can absolutely help with that.

My goal isn't to make your marketing feel like another full-time job.

It's to make it easier. Every business is different. Some clients send me photos every week. Some send me a quick text with an idea. Some hand everything over and say, "You've got this."

There's no right or wrong way. Together, we'll find a rhythm that works for you and your business.

Because marketing should fit into your life...

Not take it over.

If you've been putting off marketing because creating content feels overwhelming, let's chat about a simpler way to do it.

I use AI almost every day.

I know some people think that's a bad thing.

It isn't. AI is an incredible tool. The problem isn't AI. The problem is when every business starts sounding exactly the same.

If your entire marketing strategy is typing one sentence into ChatGPT and copying whatever comes out...

You're slowly giving away the one thing your competitors can never copy.

Your personality.

When I work with a business, I don't just create graphics or write captions. I get to know the people behind the business: how they talk, what they believe, the stories they don't even realize they're telling.

Because those are the things people remember.

The goal isn't to sound like AI.

The goal is to sound so much like you that when someone needs what you offer...

They don't think of "a" plumber.

Or "a" boutique.

They think of your business.

AI can help create content.

But your personality? You can't prompt that.

Whatever you're doing this weekend...

I hope you're not thinking about your social media.

Maybe you're camping, at the lake, watching the kids play ball or simply enjoying a coffee on the deck while breathing in a well earned break.

Your business deserves that.

But here's something to think about...
If you stepped away for two weeks...
Would your marketing disappear too? Would your social media go quiet? Would your website still be advertising last month's promotion?

Planning ahead means your business can keep showing up, even while you're taking time to recharge.

Because your customers don't stop scrolling just because it's July.

And they don't stop needing what you offer.

You don't have to be glued to your phone every day. You just need a plan.

Your customers should notice when you're away.
Not your marketing.

One of the biggest misconceptions about my job?

People think clients hire me because they don't know how to use social media.

That's almost never the case.

They know how. They just don't have time. They're serving customers. Managing staff. Ordering inventory. Meeting deadlines and trying to squeeze in lunch.

Marketing becomes that thing they promise themselves they'll get to tomorrow.

Then tomorrow turns into next week.

And before they know it, it's been a month since they posted anything.

That's where I come in.

Not to take over your business. To take one thing off your plate.

I get to know your business, learn your voice, create content that sounds like you, and send everything to you for approval before it goes live.

You stay in control.

I help keep things moving.

Because you didn't start your business to spend your evenings wondering what to post on Facebook, Instagram, or LinkedIn.

You started it to do what you love.

I'll help make sure people know about it.

☕ Coffee? Check.

💻 Laptop? Open.

📅 Scheduling next month's content? Done.

🌐 Updating a client's website with a new service? On it.

📱 Answering a quick text that says, "Can we share this today?" Absolutely.

Most mornings don't look all that exciting.

But that's kind of the point.

While my clients are opening their doors, helping customers, managing staff, and keeping their businesses running...

I'm making sure their marketing is moving too. Posts are scheduled. Websites stay up to date. Promotions don't get forgotten.

And every piece of content is written to sound like *them*, then sent over for approval before anything goes live.

This is what marketing support looks like. Not flashy. Not overwhelming. Just one less thing on your to-do list, so you can focus on what you do best.

You run your business. I'll help make sure people know about it.

"Did you make your bed?"

My dad used to ask me the same question mornings before I left the house.

I'll be honest... I rolled my eyes more times than I can count.

Most mornings, I'd try to sneak out before he had a chance to ask. At the time, I thought he cared about a neatly made bed.

Now I know it was never about the bed.

It was about showing up. Doing the little things, even when nobody was watching. The habits that don't seem important in the moment are usually the ones that shape everything else.

I think about that a lot when it comes to running a business.

Posting on social media. Updating your website. Sharing your latest promotion.
Posting photos from an event. Answering reviews.

None of those things feel monumental on their own.

But together? They tell your customers you're still here. You're paying attention. You're proud of your business. Your customers don't expect perfection. They just want to know you're still there.

Every post. Every website update. Every photo. Every little reminder that your business is alive and serving your community.

Those little things add up. They always have.

Turns out my dad wasn't teaching me how to make a bed. He was teaching me how to show up.
