EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW | SPLA-IO leadership crisis

SPLA-IO military spokesman Col. Lam Paul Gabriel has ruled out armed infighting within the opposition movement despite the deepening leadership crisis surrounding the suspension of acting chairman Oyet Nathaniel Pierino.

Speaking to Sudans Post on Friday, Lam said the military command no longer recognizes Oyet as acting chairman, defended its endorsement of Regina Joseph Kaba as Acting Interim Deputy Chair, and addressed questions over Riek Machar’s role and communication from detention.

Lam also spoke candidly about frustration within the SPLA-IO ranks over the movement’s return to Juba under the peace agreement.

“People, in fact, including myself, I’m bitter. I’m bitter just like almost every soldier who is bitter in the bush,” he said. “We went, but yes, it backfired on us.”
