Bara Locality – North Kordofan State
The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and allied fighters captured Bara locality’s administrative capital, Bara, on Thursday after launching a coordinated assault from multiple directions, dealing the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) one of their most significant setbacks yet in North Kordofan State.
Troops advanced westward from Zeriba El-Sheikh Burei and Um Dam, about 70 km east of Bara, before storming the town from the northeast and south alongside contingents of the Joint Forces of Armed Struggle Movements (JSAMF), an alliance of former Darfur rebel groups.
The fall of Bara marks a key step for the SAF as it seeks to secure the Sadarat Highway, also known as Al-Inqaz Al-Qarbi Highway, which links Khartoum directly to the Kordofan and Darfur regions.
The military must next clear neighboring Hamra El-Sheikh, Umm Sayyallah and nearby villages, all located to the north of Bara, to guarantee an uninterrupted supply corridor directly from the capital Khartoum into Kordofan, instead of relying on the Khartoum-Rabak-El-Obeid highway.
