Metallica helped save dance music festival Tomorrowland in Belgium over the weekend after a devastating fire destroyed the main stage.

Last Wednesday afternoon (16th July), a massive fire gutted the elaborate ice-themed main stage at Tomorrowland just hours before campsites opened at the 200,000-capacity event. Fortunately, no one was injured in the fire.

Despite the setback, astonishingly a brand-new stage was erected directly in front of the burnt-out wreckage in just 24 hours – thanks to Metallica.

Elements of the heavy metal titans' tour setup stored in Austria were airlifted to Belgium overnight on Thursday and a new stage was built in the early hours of Friday.

Electronic music DJ Martin Garrix took to Instagram to share a photo of himself with Lars Ulrich, and wrote: "I cannot believe I’m actually typing this... but my set at Tomorrowland is still happening!

"Massive love and a big shoutout to the incredible Tomorrowland team for pulling off miracles — and to Metallica for coming through with the new stage parts..."

Metallica responded to Garrix with a black heart emoji.

Congrats to all the crews and staff, and organizers. Such a tragedy to lose the main stage and still keep the show on schedule

Since a teenager, growing up one hour away from Tomorrowland, I always dreamed of playing the festival. Like so many others, I was excited for the weekend, and it’s truly heartbreaking to see what’s happened.

But I know, if there’s one team that can pull this off, it’s . More than anything, it’s been amazing to see the entire dance community coming together in support. Tomorrowland is more than a festival - it’s a home for all of us. And I truly believe that whatever happens, this weekend will be as epic as ever!

Tomorrowland's mainstage site will be re-evaluated on Thursday and authorities will determine whether or not it's safe

The official cause of the fire remains unclear, per Tomorrowland spokesperson Debby Wilmsen

"Our showpiece, which took two years to build, is gone, Fortunately, the other stages are intact. The intention is truly for the festival to go on. But we can't work magic, so it will be without the Mainstage. Our production team will now do everything to make something beautiful out of it."

"Cancellation was never considered, but the organizers are relying on the authorities. If tomorrow it turns out that the site is not safe and we receive instructions from the authorities, we will follow them. Safety is always the priority.

IMPORTANT UPDATE

Due to a serious incident and fire on the Tomorrowland Mainstage, our beloved Mainstage has been severely damaged.

We can confirm that no one was injured during the incident.

We can announce that, DreamVille (campsite) will open tomorrow (Thursday, July 17) as planned and will be ready for all DreamVille visitors.
All Global Journey activities in Brussels and Antwerp will take place as planned.

We are focused on finding solutions for the festival weekend (Friday – Saturday – Sunday).
More updates and detailed information will be communicated as soon as possible.

Sounds like a banger. That’s the problem with big music industry and working with labels. Has to fit what they want and not just its good music release it.
How many great songs haven’t been heard due to not getting released because of red tape.
