We know how talented and awesome our Sequel authors are, and we'd like everyone to know too!

This week's word smith is Jasper Dent ( ) πŸŽ‰

Jasper Dent writes primarily gothic horror and weird fiction, in which he aims to explore human fears and failings, the dynamics of power and control, and to subvert and reclaim the more harmful or bigoted tropes sometimes associated with those genres, particularly through a q***r and transgender lens. He has worked in multiple storytelling mediums including short stories, novels, and scripts.

Jasper lives on Treaty Six Territory in Saskatoon, Canada, surrounded by books and (at time of writing) one dog and three cats. He works at an independent bookstore, and in his spare time enjoys reading, watching old horror movies, and getting outside the city to explore the beautiful prairies he calls home.

We know how talented and awesome our Sequel authors are, and we'd like everyone to know too!

This week's writer is Danielle Grant ( ) πŸŽ‰!

Danielle loves to immerse herself in the realms of fantasy, speculative fiction, mystery, and horror.

Danielle writes as she always has: gaining inspiration from some wayward idea, writing in a feverish frenzy, then suddenly losing all interest. Danielle hopes to one day overcome her customary practice and actually complete the stories that refuse to die in the obscure corner of her mind.

Danielle achieved her Masters in English (with a focus on Medieval manuscript production), with Bachelors in English and Psychology. She is proud to have achieved this and is even prouder that none of her degrees directly apply to her current career as an administrative assistant.

Danielle is an avid ttrpg player with a tenuous grasp of "rules." She enjoys video games, craft beer, camping, and the sun's warmth. While writing, Danielle listens to music--her other deep-rooted passion (as a listener; she cannot carry a note). She has eclectic taste, with a particular fondness for rock.

Danielle otherwise spends her days fumbling to take take care of her houseplants--luckily, they are some very forgiving succulents. She has named all the pigeons living on her balcony. None of their names bear repeating here.

We know how talented and awesome our Sequel authors are, and we'd like everyone to know too!

This week's writer is Victor Hua () πŸŽ‰!

If asked, Victor Hua would tell you that he was born at the exact time, day, and year he needed to be... Just in the entirely wrong world. One not nearly as fantastical as he wished.

If it was up to him, he would have gone on a ten-year long journey by now. Trekking through a magical world, killing slimes, creatures, and dragons alike. Or perhaps he'd be in the deep seas, exploring ancient sunken relics. He'd even settle for tripping and falling down a laundry chute, discovering a pathway into a whole new world with its own structure, customs, and beliefs.

Alas he has naught but the beautifully grimy city of Toronto, Ontario to call his home instead. He can be found hosting various TTRPGs for his friends, browsing local bookstores for whatever catches his eye, or trying to keep his lunch out of the grips of the local squirrel mafia. He might even be spotted on a rare outdoor walk once patio season comes around.

Q***r, trans, and Vietnamese diaspora, Victor quickly found solace within stories. Whether it be through books, movies, anime, or video games, he had surrounded himself with stories for as long as he can remember. Being able to put those stories to paper has been a lifelong dream, one that he has taken a first step towards with his debut piece in Sequel, and hopes you will follow along his journey for many more stories to come.

We know how talented and awesome our Sequel authors are, and we'd like everyone to know too!

This week's word smith is Kristian Lowe () πŸŽ‰!

Kristian is a creator based out of Vancouver, BC. With a million different images and ideas bouncing inside his brain at all times, he must find ways to get them out. Whether it's through writing, animating, or guiding friends through ttrpg adventures, Kristian has a desperate need to create stories and share them with others.

An animator by trade, Kristian loves cartoons, and has worked on many projects including Captain Underpants, Rick and Morty, and The Snoopy Show. With the Sequel Anthology Project, Kristian hopes to grow as a writer and share his own stories with the world, for anyone to enjoy.

We know how talented and awesome our Sequel authors are, and we'd like everyone to know too!

First up is Chandra Fisher () πŸŽ‰!

Chandra Fisher is a writer of novels and short stories for teens and adults; her works have won $50,000 in grants from the Canada Council for the Arts and have been shortlisted for the Aurora Awards and the Times/Chickenhouse publishing contest. She has published short stories in anthologies with Prairie Soul Press and Tyche books, and her story SINK YOUR SORROWS TO THE SEA was invited to the Year’s Best Canadian Fantasy and Science Fiction anthology.

Chandra gives back to the writing community by mentoring in the Write Team Mentorship Program and running a collective of talented writers over at www.thewritingfolks.com. Her writing is fast paced with a strong sense of place-as-character, with metaphor driven descriptions and strong character development. Even when her works lean dark, they tend to end on an element of hope or joy.

When she's not writing you can find her reading, obviously, or maybe teaching or hanging out with her gaggle of children and her spouse in small town Alberta. She enjoys growing too many house plants to count and maintaining a limitless collection of unfinished crochet projects.
