It was an honor to interview this hero many times. Many of his stories left the documentary crew looking at one another in amazement. From flying bombing missions on D-Day, to crashing and surviving four times, to telling his commanding officer he couldn't drive a Jeep because he just came off the farm and they only had horses, these were just the tip off the iceberg. Thank you again for your service Mr. Harrison.
With the support of Reg Harrison's family, it is with a heavy heart that I share the news of his passing on November 20th, 2025. At the remarkable age of 103, Reg left an indelible mark on those who knew him. I could write a book about his life, and, in fact, there is one.
Personally, I have lost a dear friend, a father figure, and a comrade. My admiration for him is boundless. As a World War Two veteran who served with 431 squadron RCAF, Reg survived 19 missions and four plane crashes. I was privileged to be the documentarian who helped preserve his incredible story 25 years ago, capturing over 30 hours of footage and interviews. His voice remains a sacred treasure in the vault of our Canada Remembers documentaries, in which he appears in seven films, with two more to be completed.
Reg was an honorary Snowbird, Queen and King Metal reciepient , but importantly , a devoted husband, father, son, and grandfather. He may be gone, but his legacy lives on. His words continue to resonate: 'The heroes are still over there.' My response to him is: 'Reg, you are among the heroes now.' He once said, 'When you see an eagle, know that I will be soaring with them.' Godspeed, Sir. Rest in peace.
