Last September before tragedy struck, my trip to Blackbirch Lake with Gray Wood Outfitters in Nakina was off the charts.

I didn't think I'd be going back so soon, but as it turns out my group and I will be flying into Blackbirch July 4-11 this year.

My initial reaction was no, I can't go back there.

After losing Adam in the way that I did on the last trip it fundamentally changed me and I've been struggling with what happened ever since.

But... I think it's a good thing to return and I'm incredibly grateful to everyone at Grey Wood for the opportunity!

Blackbirch is a very special lake.

Lying 280 kilometres NW of Nakina it's extremely remote, and it's part of a vast, fish filled watershed that flows north into the Winisk River system and eventually Hudson's Bay.

The fishing for trophy pike and numbers of walleye is world class and I know we'll do well.

More than anything, now I can honour my friend in the best way possible, in the only way I know how.
