You’ve probably heard about the National Powersport Trails Report 2025. Here’s the rider’s breakdown — no long report, just the essentials 👇
📍 The Big Picture
➡️ 142,000 km of trails across Canada — from coast to coast.
➡️ $10.3 billion pumped into Canada’s economy thanks to powersport trails.
➡️ 663,000+ riders registered and riding.
➡️ 184,000 volunteer hours every year keeping trails safe and open.
⚠️ The Challenges
📛 Land access at risk → some trails are closing due to land use changes.
📛 Not enough funding → trails cost $200/km to maintain, but budgets are tight.
📛 Government red tape → more rules, less flexibility.
📛 Rider behaviour matters → unsafe riding fuels land closures.
🙌 Why It Matters to YOU
💚 Trails don’t maintain themselves — they’re kept alive by volunteers, memberships, and clubs.
💚 Without organized riders, we risk losing access to Crown land and private land.
💚 A strong trail network = more places to ride, safer experiences, and long-term access.
✅ What You Can Do
Riders:
➡️ Join your local ATV or dirt bike club. Membership fees go straight back into trails.
➡️ Respect the rules → it keeps trails open for everyone.
➡️ Volunteer a few hours — think of it as giving back to the trails you ride.
Clubs:
➡️ Focus on recruiting new volunteers (younger riders too!).
➡️ Partner with local businesses and dealers for support.
➡️ Advocate for safe, legal, sustainable trails.
Federations:
➡️ Push for federal recognition and funding — trails create huge economic and community value.
➡️ Share best practices across provinces.
➡️ Keep raising the bar on safety and sustainability.
🌲 Bottom Line
Canada’s trail system is massive, valuable, and unique — but it’s vulnerable. If we want to keep riding for years to come, every rider, club, and federation has a role to play.
