National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day to honour Residential School Survivors, their families and communities, and the children who never returned home.

It is also a day to listen, learn and reflect on the lasting impacts of the Residential School system, while recognizing the strength, resilience and continued presence of Indigenous communities across Canada.

This year, the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation will host a gathering at Cape Croker Park on September 30. The event will provide an opportunity for community members to come together, honour the truth, recognize cultural resilience and reflect on the ongoing journey toward reconciliation.

The event is open to everyone, and members of the Town of South Bruce Peninsula Council and staff will be attending. Community members are encouraged to take part, listen and learn.

Orange Shirt Day is also observed on September 30, with the message **Every Child Matters** serving as an important reminder of the children who were taken from their families and communities, and the need to continue learning from this history.

For many, Truth and Reconciliation is not simply about one day. It is about continuing to listen, understand and build respectful relationships throughout the year.
