SASK. PARTY OUTSOURCING PARK RESERVATIONS, HUNTING AND FISHING LICENSES TO U.S. COMPANY. SASK. PARTY BREAKING PROMISE ON NON-U.S. PROCUREMENT
Despite promising to stop bankrolling U.S. companies, the Sask. Party is outsourcing park reservations and hunting and fishing licenses to a big American company.
“There’s nothing more Saskatchewan than hunting, fishing, and camping in our beautiful province,” said Darcy Warrington, Shadow Minister for Parks, Culture and Sport. “When you pick up the phone to book a Saskatchewan campsite or get a new fishing license, you should be speaking to someone in Saskatchewan, not the United States.”
The Sask. Party government pays RA Outdoors LTD, a Texas-based company operating as Aspira, approximately $2 million per year (Public Accounts, page 271).
The Sask. Party government has been working with Aspira since 2012. The first “guiding principle” of the Sask. Party’s new policy on capital projects and procurement is supposed to be “prioritize non-U.S. procurement.”
This morning, the Official Opposition called the government of Saskatchewan’s help line for fishing licenses and spoke with someone in New York. Camping reservations through Sask. Parks are set to open next week.
“Donald Trump is taking steps to crush our economy,” said Erika Ritchie, Shadow Minister for SaskBuilds and Procurement. “It’s not right to ship these jobs across the border to save a buck.
“Saskatoon is a hub of software innovation. We've got world-class software companies that are being shut out of these contracts — we should be putting Saskatchewan and Canadian workers first, now and into the future.”
The Sask. Party Environment Minister defended the U.S. contract in Question Period today, saying it is working effectively.
