A peaceful moment in the wild β a harbour seal stretched out on its side, soaking up the sunshine. π¦πβοΈ
Harbour seals are one of the most common marine mammals along the Pacific Northwest coast, and you can often spot them resting on rocky shores, beaches, and small islands around British Columbia.
π¦ They can sleep both on land and in the water, sometimes floating at the surface with just their heads above the water.
π Harbour seals are excellent divers and can stay underwater for around 30 minutes when necessary.
π Their diet includes fish, squid, octopus, and crustaceans β whatever is available in their local waters.
βοΈ And that classic βsunbathingβ pose? Hauling out on land is important for resting, conserving energy, and regulating body temperature.
