The term menopause actually represents one day! It is the day that marks 12 months since your last period. Up to that point, you are perimenopausal and every day past that point you are a post menopausal woman.

For most, the surprising part is that you don’t enter menopause until that 12 months since mark.

Did you know that we have estrogen receptors in our gut?

For many women, they can feel bloated, anxious and even depressed during perimenopause as a result of the fluctuation of this hormone!

This extends to a lot of women in the 1-2 weeks leading to their period. The drop in estrogen can case intense symptoms (a cause of PMDD).

When you think symptoms, many will instinctively think “hot flashes”, but is it the most defining symptom?

No it’s not, but other than having TB or a fever, nothing else medically explains it, so it’s the top recognized symptom and one providers use when identifying whether you are menopausal.

Some of the most common symptoms are vaginal dryness, weight gain, dry eye, ringing in the ears, irritability, migraines, heart palpitations, brain fog…and that’s only scratching the surface.
