The World of The Hearts of Heroes - Part III - Feast Days: Seasonal Celebrations of the Ancient Celts

Hello everyone,

This week on the blog we’re taking a look at the seasonal celebrations of the Celts. We’ll discuss classical writers’ views of the Celts, explore Celtic myth, and look at the four great festivals of Imbolc, Beltane, Lughnasadh, and Samhain.

You can read all about it on the Blog at the Link in Bio or here:

Io Saturnalia!

December 17th was the start of the ancient Roman festival of Saturnalia when people across the Empire - rich and poor, master and slave - would get dressed up, give gifts, gamble in public and party like it was the end of the world or, at least, the end of the year.

But what did Saturnalia actually mean for people in ancient Rome? Was it like Christmas for us today? Did they look forward it? Did they dread the expense and preparation it required to entertain or put a smile upon the faces of their familiae?

In this new blog post, we’re going to hear what some ancient writers actually thought about various aspects of Saturnalia.

You can read the post in the ‘Article Archive’ at the Link in Bio or here:

Io Saturnalia!

Salvete Romanophiles!

December 17 to the 23rd was the Roman festival of Saturnalia, so I thought it would be fun to have a quick look at some of the traditions of this ancient Roman festival.

Suckling pigs, candles, gambling with nuts, and masters and slaves trading places? It’s all part of the carnival atmosphere of Saturnalia!

You can read the full article in the ‘Article Archive’ at the Link in Bio or here:
