Hadrian’s Library - A Tour of the Archaeological Site in Athens
Hello ancient history and archaeology-lovers!
This week on the blog we’re taking a tour of one of the glories of Roman Athens: Hadrian’s Library.
This magnificent library and centre of learning was erected on Emperor Hadrian’s third visit to Athens in the year A.D. 132.
In addition to the bibliostasion (the library), it also had reading rooms, lecture halls, and study rooms that opened onto a vast, colonnaded garden with a large decorative pool in the middle.
