We’re expecting everything but the kitchen sink with this next weather system in Atlantic Canada. That includes 30 to 50-plus cm of snow for some, 30 to 50-plus mm of rain for others, and a risk of ice pellets and freezing rain in between.

It was 20 years ago on Feb. 18 and 19, 2004 that the historic snowstorm dubbed White Juan slammed parts of the Maritimes. Just five months earlier, hurricane Juan made landfall in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, and the strength of this blizzard caused people to describe it as a hurricane in disguise - dubbing it White Juan.

A low-pressure system is taking shape along the U.S. Eastern Seaboard and is forecast to move near the Bay of Fundy Tuesday night into the Gulf of St. Lawrence, and then to the northeast of Newfoundland and Labrador Wednesday night.

A developing low-pressure system will intensify as it moves up the eastern seaboard on Saturday and merges with a cold front approaching from our west. Parts of Atlantic Canada could see rainfall amounts of 50 to 100 mm with peak southeast wind gusts between 90 and 110-plus km/h.
