Just had to stop in at to see the store since we haven’t been to the Kamloops location since our ranch days. Different vibe, but the wall of boots is super impressive. Didn’t find one I liked for me though if you can believe that!

Good news this morning! WestJet and CUPE have reached a tentative agreement and the strike is coming to an end. WestJet has already begun gradually restoring its schedule.

There will still be some disruption while they get aircraft and crews back where they need to be, so if you’re travelling over the next few days, keep checking your flight status and watch for communication from WestJet.

As for us, we’re still scheduled to fly home from Calgary on August 6th and I sure feel a whole lot better about our own trip this morning! I’ll keep an eye on things, but I’m heading off to the Calgary Zoo today feeling considerably less worried about how we’re getting home. Although we do love Calgary!

I’ll keep watching the updates and will reach out personally to my clients if anything comes up that needs attention.

Very happy to see this resolved so quickly and hopefully everyone can get where they need to go with as little disruption as possible. 🩵

Well, the WestJet strike is officially underway as of 12:01 a.m. this morning.

This elk got spooked by a road sign and darted out at lightening speed right across the front of our car. Banff doesn’t mess around with advisory on slow driving and eyes peeled. Feeling amazed and terrified at once. Respect.

WESTJET UPDATE

WestJet has now begun proactively reducing some of its flying schedule and cancelling select flights in response to the current labour situation with its cabin crew.

Right now, their flexible travel advisory applies to flights scheduled to depart through August 4. The negotiations are continuing, so there is still a lot that can happen and change as this unfolds.

If you have an upcoming WestJet flight, keep an eye on your app and the email associated with your booking. Of course, what you choose to do with your travel plans is entirely up to you. If you have the flexibility to wait, my recommendation would be to watch what WestJet is doing over the next few days and follow their updates before making any decisions.

I'm watching this closely. I'm away in Calgary with my family this week and we're scheduled to fly WestJet home to Halifax on August 6. So yes, I'm keeping a VERY close eye on things.

And for my clients, even though I'm away, I'm on top of this. I'm watching the updates as they come in and if anything changes that affects your travel, I will reach out to you personally via my Travel Best Bets email.

For now, I'm watching, waiting, and hoping those negotiations get somewhere and there are minimal disruptions. 🤞🏻

Well we're off for a week to celebrate Emily's 20th birthday! 20! Who authorized THAT!? 20 years. P**f. Amazing how fast that flew… I’d snap my fingers again to describe that but, I already did it and think I tore a ligament in my finger. 🤣

We'll be spending her birthday at the Royal Tyrrell Museum (where else? 🦖), visiting the University of Alberta as she explores their paleontology program, and hopefully finding a body of water or two along the way.

Now for some administrative talk: Before leaving, I have reached out to all of my clients travelling within the current WestJet travel advisory window of July 30 through August 4. I'll still be checking my email while I'm away, and anyone travelling during that advisory period can continue to follow the latest updates and watch their WestJet apps.

I also wanted to give WestJet a well deserved shout out. No surprise here, but I’ve been tracking the same storm system from PEI, so the short weather delay came as no surprise. From the moment we boarded, the crew has been warm, welcoming, funny!, and full of thoughtful touches. My complimentary glass of red wine certainly didn't hurt either. 🍷(I may have had Pete’s with the turbulence! lol)

Then there was the bag of chips that looked like it was going to burst and in no way was I going to be responsible for that on a plane. 😂 Pete depressurized it for me. Whew. Crisis averted.

Who loses 50 pounds and falls through the outdoor couch!? This girl. 🤣

I swear I didn’t cheat THAT much since Madeira. (Gained 3 pounds,… but still…) 👀

The couch was tossed something fierce 3 weeks after we moved in to our PEI home by Hurricane Fiona. Hubby gave it a quick zap patch job and we’ve been using it ever since. Until this morning. lol.

Good thing I didn’t have my coffee in my hand.
