Natalie Appleton studied journalism at the University of Regina and creative writing at City University London. Her literary travel memoir, I Have Something to Tell You, followed publication of an essay in The New York Times. Natalie has won Prairie Fire’s Banff Centre Bliss Carman Poetry Award and Room Magazine’s Creative Non-fiction Contest. She lives in the Okanagan with her husband and sons.

Did you know? August 26 is National Dog Day! 🐾 To celebrate, we're highlighting some books that feature our favourite four-legged furry friends.

Check out Muggins: The Life and Afterlife of a Canadian Canine War Hero by Grant Hayter-Menzies, published by Heritage House. In Victoria BC during the first World War, Muggins was taught to wander through town with two change donation boxes tied to his back. He ultimately collected the equivalent of $250,000 for charities and causes including the Red Cross, the Blue Cross, food for poor children and prisoners of war, victims of Jewish pogroms, to name a few.
