This never gets old and makes me laugh every time… it’s the small things in life that make it fun.. 😊

They had a beautiful home. A garden they loved. A life that looked great from the outside.

But something was pulling at them.

That feeling that life could be... more.

Earlier this year, I walked into their South Surrey rancher. You could see how much care they had put into it. Every corner. Every plant.

But then came the health scare.

And suddenly, "someday" wasn't good enough anymore.

They had a dream. Wide open land and animals and big skies in Alberta. They wanted to build their own home there. They just needed someone to help them get there.

Here's where it got hard.

The market had shifted. Offers came in lower than they had hoped. It was a tough pill to swallow. I won't pretend it wasn't.

But I sat with them through that. We talked about what was real. What was possible and most importantly, what they stood to lose if they walked away from this chance.

They made the call. They took the leap.

And today? They are living that dream life. With their animals, space and quietness.

That is why I do this work.

I help families in the middle of it all. Selling a home while life is complicated. While parents need you and kids are growing up and leaving. While you are trying to figure out what comes next.

If you are sitting with that same itchy feeling, let's talk.

Send me a message and let’s figure out your next chapter together.

Real estate will tell you Sundays are non-negotiable. Miss one and you lose the deal. I don't buy it. If an offer lands on a Sunday I deal with it, that's different from being out showing houses, so I don't show homes on Sundays.

It's a church, family lunch, and recharge day for me, time with my family.

Realtors who've been trading for over 35 years are calling this one of the toughest markets they've seen. I've sold $29.5 million since January 1st by keeping Sundays for my family and me. So you can't tell me real estate requires you to show homes seven days a week to be successful.

Family first isn't a slogan for me. It's how I run this business, and it's working.

If you're in South Surrey or White Rock and thinking about a move, I'll show up hard for you and guide you always, but Sundays are my special days.

Welcome back to Cracking On, where every week I tell you one thing my body is doing at 49 and what I'm trying about it. Couch, dogs, kola tonic. Here we go.

I was about 40 when things started going sideways.

Nothing dramatic. Just a slow pile of things that weren't right.

So I did what I always do. I went and researched it myself. Sat up at night reading, going, hang on. That's me. That's me too.

Then I went to my family doctor. And after that I went and found a private doctor here in Surrey who ran proper testing and took the whole thing seriously.

Here's the part that still bothers me. I only got answers because I went digging. If I'd waited to be told, I'd still be waiting.

There are women watching this right now who know something's off and can't name it. That was me for years.

Tell me I'm not the only one.

Friend to friend, these are the 3 truths I learned when I downsized my mum.
1. You need to laugh, otherwise you'll cry. It's an emotional time and the tears turn up at odd moments, like over a set of dishes nobody has eaten off in years. Let it be funny where you can.
2. Sweating over the small stuff makes everything twice as complicated. Keep looking at the big picture, the vision of where they're going and what their life looks like once they get there. Then do it step by step.
3. Once you think you've cut down the clutter, think again. Go ahead and do it again. That house is not going to fit into a condo, and most families sort through the stuff a few times before getting it right.
None of this is about being ruthless with someone's things. It's about giving them room to land somewhere that works. The families who do this well start before the big rush and it's better that way.
If you're quietly carrying this one with your own parents, message me. I would be happy to tell you where to start.

Respect your elders. I heard that one every day at school growing up in South Africa. It’s not a bad rule.

But I’ve watched it go wrong. Someone’s falling down the stairs, or forgetting things more and more, and the family still won’t say anything because somewhere along the way respect turned into silence.

That’s not respect. That’s a safety risk wearing a nice outfit.

Prioritizing their safety over their momentary happiness isn’t disrespectful. It’s the most respectful thing you can do for someone you love.

Comment if you’ve had this fight with a parent. Or send this to whoever in your family is still waiting for permission to bring it up.

They called me off my for sale sign. I had just sold a neighbour's home in a market that had gone quiet, and they wanted to know how I'd pulled it off.

It turned out they had been thinking about this for a while. They had raised their family in that house, and their retirement was coming. They had a vision for what was next, the island, at a slower pace, and a life they'd been waiting for.

They were still healthy and still had the energy, and a choice to make the move. So they made the call on their own terms. We staged the home, priced it within the market and made it look good online and sold it even though the market wasn't doing anyone any favours that year.

They never looked back. I think about this one a lot, because it's exactly the kind of move I wish more families made. Not the scramble but a decision made while they still got to choose it.

If you're starting to wonder whether your time is coming, I would genuinely love to come and have a conversation with you to discuss your ideas. There is no pressure, just a chat.

The solution to all my problems probably isn't hanging out with these guys after work. But it doesn't hurt to try, right? Dogs make life fun.

Episode 1. The Great Pillow Migration
Welcome to Cracking On, where every week I tell you one thing my body is doing at 49 and what I'm trying about it. Couch, dogs, kola tonic. Here we go.

Quick note for the Canadians. Cracking on is what we say back home for getting on with it. My joints also crack. So the name works twice.

Last night. I fall asleep on my left side. Wake up because my left hip is throbbing. Roll onto my right side. Fall asleep. Wake up because now the right hip is sore.

So I go onto my back. Then my back starts.

I reach for the new pillow I bought for my lower back. Shove it under there. Fall asleep. Wake up because now that's uncomfortable, so I push it down under my hips instead.

Finally comfortable. It's about 4am.

Then I couldn't get up this morning. Missed my workout. Red eyes. Nothing in the tank all day.

That's five wakeups. That's a normal night for me now.

I've got a mattress topper coming, so we'll see. I'll report back.

I'm not a doctor. I'm a woman with a sore hip and a Google habit.

Tell me I'm not the only one.
