No one should have to choose between paying for prescription drugs and putting food on the table.

Today, we took another huge step forward to strengthen BC’s universal, public health care system with a new pharmacare agreement with the federal government to provide British Columbians with FREE public coverage of:

• Diabetes medications, devices and supplies
• Hormone replacement therapy to treat menopausal symptoms

BC was the first province in Canada to provide free contraceptives, and over 306,000 people have already benefitted from this program. Today’s announcement is another significant step forward to improve health care for women and gender-diverse people throughout their lifetimes.

Today’s announcement makes essential healthcare more accessible, whether managing menopause, preventing unwanted pregnancies, or controlling chromic diabetes.

More than ever, people need to know our public healthcare system is here for them - and that's why we'll continue to do everything we can to train, recruit and hire more healthcare workers, invest in new hospitals and clinics, and build out a seamless system of mental health and substance use care.
