Reach for the Stars Gala Raises $200,000

Reach Child and Youth Development Society’s Reach for the Stars Gala held June 6th , 2026 provided a touching and celebratory evening at Tsawwassen Springs that resulted in raising over $200,000 for children and youth with developmental delays.

The Honourable Jill McKnight MP, City of Delta Mayor George Harvie and REACH Liaison to City of Delta Councillor Dylan Kruger provided impactful speeches about the importance of the work Reach Society does in the community to help families with children who have extra extra support needs. MLA Ian Paton volunteered his auctioneering skills to benefit the cause and City of Port Coquitlam Councillor Steve Darling returned as the gala’s high-energy and entertaining MC.

During the evening, Reach Society children and families shared their achievements with stories, dance and music and guests reported being inspired by their in-person presence and authenticity. In addition, a video produced by media sponsor Eastlink Community TV featured nine children sharing what they like about attending the Ladner based Child Development Centre.

“The children and families we support are the heart of everything REACH does,” said Sarah Kocaba, Fundraising Manager for Reach Child and Youth Development Society. “Seeing our youth presenters share their talents and stories so proudly was a beautiful reminder of what is possible when families have access to the right support at the right time. The generosity shown by our community at this year’s Gala will help ensure more children have the opportunity to reach for the stars and achieve their full potential.”

Transcranial Doppler Helps Support Research into Intimate Partner Violence

For many people experiencing intimate partner violence, the impact of head injury or strangulation can go unseen and untreated.

For Five Days in May, an annual B.C. health research showcase, a Fraser Health nurse practitioner provided an overview of several studies exploring links between brain injury and intimate partner violence (IPV) in her presentation Beyond Brain Injury: Rethinking Diagnosis, Support and Recovery.

“Brain injury in this context is often unwitnessed, under-recognized and underdiagnosed,” says Jennifer Bellefontaine, nurse practitioner at the Embrace and HEAL Clinics. “Strangulation in particular often leaves no bruises or marks and continues to be a largely invisible act of violence.”
