Omissions from the Pope’s apology do not omit church’s role in the legacy of colonial violence in Canada

While the provincial and federal governments made exceptional efforts to ensure the Pope was comfortable as his procession shut down the entirety of the QEII highway, many people expressed confusion as to how these upgrades to infrastructure were possible given the supposed budgetary constraints which have kept many First Nations communities living without safe drinking water for decades.

The tyrannical life of D**g Zhou

When last we talked, we looked at Cao Cao, a military leader, tactician and grand chancellor of the Easter Han Dynasty — leading him to be one of the central figures of the Three Kingdoms period. Now, we move on to D**g Zhou – a general, political and warlord who used the young Emperors of Eastern Han for his own devices. A man that was so evil, in the official records of his death he was left in the street with a lit wick placed upon his body; it is said the fire burned for days on the fat and oils of his body. A special order was also given that whoever would attempt to collect or go forth to the body would be killed.

Scott Takaguchi appeared before council on July 18 to speak on the Angels in the Outfield tournament being held Aug. 26 to 28 at the Ken McDonald Memorial Sports Centre. Angels in the Outfield was looking to request a facility waiver for the charity event.

M.D. of Taber transitioning to partnership with TPS/Town of Taber for bylaw enforcement

Come this fall, the Municipal District of Taber will see a Taber Police Service member provide their bylaw enforcement. With shakeups to their Community Peace Officer program over the past several months, the M.D. has been exploring different options on how to proceed. After closed session during their July 19 meeting, council remerged and further discussed what’s coming for bylaw enforcement.

Taber Food Bank looking forward to a busy August

Fundraisers for the Taber Food Bank will be picking back up once again this month after taking July off.

First up comes the Vegetable Garden BBQ which will be hosted on Aug. 20. Next is the Cornfest 50/50 Draw — potentially one of the largest fundraisers for the food bank in 2022.

Taber town council reviews two bylaws

Bylaw 14-2022 was given its first reading at a meeting previous to the July 18 regular meeting of council, and after a public hearing with no community members speaking out against the bylaw, council moved onto their second and third readings.

Agriculture industry group calls for more provincial funding

An Alberta farm group says it is looking for more provincial funding, with the industry facing tighter budgets and losing out on advancements.

Ken Coles, executive director of Farming Smarter in Lethbridge, says the industry has been doing its best to leverage support locally but with growing supply-and-demand the need for secure, efficient funding is a key factor in developing more innovation.

Rogers outage shows the need for diversity of companies

The Rogers outage earlier this month highlighted a number of things for Canadians — one of which is the Shaw/Rogers merger is not a good idea, whatsoever. And it never was, but this was just another point to add to the list of why this shouldn’t happen. Two giants like that should never be allowed to merge and while the outage has once again brought forward discussion around killing the deal, why did it even take that?

What will it take to land Juan Soto?

The biggest question MLB GMs have to be asking themselves right now is “do we have what it takes to make a trade for Juan Soto?” And, really there are only 15-20 that are seriously considering it, with other teams in rebuilding phases that could likely facilitate the trade but would decimate their prospect pool that they need to become viable.
