Today was one of the hardest moments I have experienced as a daughter.
I walked in on my 86 year-old mother sobbing on the phone, telling her twin sister that I was starving her and eating her food. Just hours earlier at dinner, she complained that the meal I cooked had sand in it. Everyone else ate the same food from the same pot without any issue, but she insisted only her plate had sand.😳🥰
To reassure her, I even gave her my own plate. She ate it and said it tasted fine, even though it came from the same pot.
Now my aunt is threatening to take her away to live in a nursing home, and my mom has already packed her bag to leave. The heartbreaking part is that she is calling her twin sister “mom.”
Caring for an aging parent can be deeply emotional and complicated. Moments like this remind me how fragile the mind can become with age.
What hurts even more is seeing some family members treat the situation like a joke.😂
Right now, I’m not looking for blame or sides. I’m simply trying to bring peace, understanding, and compassion back into this family.
Sometimes our elders are not being difficult, they are simply struggling in ways we cannot see.
Tonight, I choose patience, love, and grace.💐💐
