The Herald Savanna Smith of the Delaware Nation at Moraviantown won the junior women’s championship and was fourth overall at the Ontario Indigenous golf tournament earlier this month at Six Nations. She had rounds of 86, 80 and 87. It’s the fourth straight year the sophomore at Michigan’s Adrian College has won the junior title. She began playing golf during the pandemic with her dad. Cheryl Mitchell of Walpole Island won the overall championship for the second straight year with rounds of 76, 77 and 73.

Sydney Goodreau/The Herald Artists in Motion, above, wowed the crowd with their dance moves while Garnetta and DaGroovmasters, below, got people on their feet as they filled the Josiah Henson Museum with funk, soul, and R&B music at Emancipation Day. Hundreds came to the museum to celebrate with live performances from black musicians, dancers, cooks, and speakers.

The St. Clair Region of the Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association hosted its first ever Compaction Day. Farm equipment was driven onto sensors to see just what impact they had on the land beneath their wheels. EDF Power Solutions plans a 100 megawatt project Heather Wright/The Herald There is word of another possible wind project in the region and this one will be very close to Thamesville if it is built. EDF Power Solutions wants to build a 100 megawatt project which would have towers in an area bounded by Thamesville, Ridgetown and Harwich Road. Heather Wright/The Herald The Ministry of the Environment says Chatham-Kent will have some say on what happens to the Dresden dump. York1 Environmental has plans to turn the derelict dump into a construction and soil waste recycling centre and rebuild the 20-acre landfill. No health risk to drinking water FROM THE MUNICIPALITY OF CHATHAM-KENT Customers of the Bothwell water distribution system may see slightly discoloured water coming from water taps in the next few days. The safety of the water is not affected by this colour issue. The discolouration will last for a brief period of time and will clear naturally as the system replenishes with new water....
