In the current issue, Escarpment visits Websterbilt owner Marty Webster’s own renovation—a 1990s home on 95 acres near Duntroon Highlands, thoughtfully reimagined while preserving its original warmth, wood tones and mid-century character.

Gutted to the studs and redesigned for better flow, the home now features an expanded kitchen, refreshed loft primary suite and a moody billiards room with a refined feel.

Before —> After

One was drawn to the clean, wintery feel of a Scandinavian chalet. The other loved the sun-washed warmth of southern Spain and France.

In Scandi Hacienda, part of our Spring Refresh feature, a Collingwood couple transforms their Lockhart Subdivision home into a thoughtful blend of both—Mediterranean hacienda meets Scandinavian chalet.

With help from local architect Andrew Slade and Van Allan Design Centre, the renovation preserved the home’s architectural integrity, including its timeless staircase, while introducing updated flooring, built-in cabinetry, panelled appliances, custom millwork and beautifully considered details throughout.

As the homeowner noted, much of a renovation is made up of the things you don’t see—electrical, plumbing, drywall, demolition and all the expert work behind the walls that brings the final vision to life.

A local legacy, built by hand and carried far beyond these shores.

In our Spring issue, Kate MacLennan explores Georgian Bay’s boat-building boom and the innovators, craftspeople and dreamers whose work helped shape a sailing legacy that reached well beyond the region.

Vaulted white oak ceilings. A stone hearth built to feel generations old. Deer moving through the trees just beyond the windows… This contemporary country home south of Collingwood was designed for the kind of living that feels connected to its surroundings—where craftsmanship, comfort and family are woven into every detail.

COUNTRY COMFORT is featured in the current issue of Escarpment Magazine.

Kailee Corkum and her family liked the layout of their 17-year-old Nottawa home, but wanted some updates. What followed was a stunning transformation: a larger island, arched doorways, a butler’s pantry and a former three-season room reimagined as a dining space.

“It feels like home now. It’s more open and airy, and seems to transition seamlessly with the beauty of the outdoors.”

HOME SWEET HOME is one of three homes featured in SPRING REFRESH in the current Spring issue of Escarpment Magazine—a before-and-after look at inspired local renovations and redesigns.

“If we’re on a court with really serious players, we try to behave. But if it’s just us, we’ve got music playing and there’s usually some dancing happening between points.” — Kerry Baker of the proudly named pickleball crew, Pickled and Confused.

What began as a casual pastime is quickly becoming one of the area’s most social and surprisingly addictive sports. From cedar-framed courts at Duntroon Highlands Resort to year-round indoor play at Smash Pickleball in Collingwood, pickleball is bringing generations together one rally at a time.
