Is your page URL a wall of random numbers? Have you even noticed?

You're not alone — this is one of the most overlooked steps when setting up a Page.

Without a custom username, your URL looks like 𝚏𝚊𝚌𝚎𝚋𝚘𝚘𝚔.𝚌𝚘𝚖/𝚙𝚛𝚘𝚏𝚒𝚕𝚎.𝚙𝚑𝚙?𝚒𝚍=𝟷000𝟼𝟹𝟽𝟺𝟸𝟿𝟷𝟾𝟹𝟽𝟷. With a proper username, it's clean, memorable, and shareable.

Here's why it matters beyond just looks:

People can @𝐭𝐚𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐚𝐠𝐞 in posts and comments
* It shows up better in 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡
* It looks professional in 𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐥 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬, 𝐛𝐢𝐨𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬

Dev Mode time again!

Starting a new website build, which means I’ll probably disappear into hyperfocus for a bit. It’s intense, but it’s also where the magic happens.

I love this part—turning ideas into something real for my clients.

Winter can be a tough time to get in your brain breaks. When it’s too cold for a walk outside or gardening, I turn to indoor tasks like building Lego (these little kits are perfect for short breaks) or embroidery. It’s something I can do with my hands, and fills a creative bucket without me having to think too hard or decide anything. Just create.

𝐀𝐥𝐭 𝐭𝐞𝐱𝐭 comes up a lot, and there’s often a mix of good questions and misinformation, so here’s a quick refresher.

𝐀𝐥𝐭 𝐭𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐞𝐬 to help people who are blind or have low vision understand images. It should describe what’s in the image, especially any text or information not already covered in the caption.

It’s 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒂𝒏 𝑺𝑬𝑶 𝒕𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒌. While platforms do use alt text, it’s meant to help categorize images so people find relevant content, not to boost rankings. Clear, honest descriptions matter more than keywords.

You’ll usually find alt text in image edit or advanced settings (location varies by platform). The more you use it, the easier it gets, and the more accessible your content becomes.

Like any true web designer cliché, I’ve got all the tabs open — and I’ll be closing as many as I can for the holidays (or at least trying 😄). Shutting down isn’t always easy, but it’s necessary for renewing creativity and reconnecting with what fuels us.

We’re excited to share the Wix Studio redesign for 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐚𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐋𝐢𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐲. This project brought a fresh, modern design to encourage the next generation to discover and love their local library and all it has to offer.

The upgrade also included 𝐀𝐀 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞, a new 𝐂𝐌𝐒 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭, and 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐟𝐟 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 to keep the site running smoothly.

A modern look, better access, and more independence for the library team! 📚

𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐠𝐠𝐥𝐞𝐬? 𝐒𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞!
As a solopreneur, one of my biggest challenges has always been tracking my time. I’ve tried it all—printable sheets, spreadsheets, even sticky notes. But if I forget to actually use them? Well… there goes my cost analysis.

After asking around in my go-to geek groups, one tool came up again and again: Toggl Track. So I gave it a try. I’ve been using it for over a month now (even backfilled my hours from earlier this year), and I’m impressed!

Even on the free plan, it does more than I need—yet I can already see how it could scale as my business grows.
