A coalition of northern residents who are lobbying the provincial government to make substantial improvements to Highway 6 say it is continuing and ramping up its efforts to get the highways minister to commit to a five-year improvement plan.

Nearly a year after meeting with the transportation minister last May, Citizens Action group has sent Doyle Piwniuk a letter and nine resolutions signed by northern communities and organizations.

The first northern development ministers forum since 2019 saw Manitoba Natural Resources and Northern Development Minister Greg Nesbitt, Newfoundland and Labrador Indigenous Affairs and Reconciliation Minister Lisa Dempster and federal Northern Affairs Minister Dan Vandal gather in Northern Manitoba’s Hudson Bay port town for discussions centred around the theme of economic reconciliation through action.

Federal Northern Affairs Minister Dan Vandal met with Manitoba Natural Resources and Northern Development Minister Greg Nesbitt Newfoundland and Labrador Indigenous Affairs and Reconciliation Minister Lisa Dempster for the first first northern development ministers forum since 2019.

The École Riverside School Rams dominated the 2023 Knights of Columbus indoor track meet in Thompson, collecting twice as many total points as the second-place Deerwood School Dragons.

École Riverside School retained the overall title they snatched away from Westwood School four years ago as the Knight of Columbus track meet returned May 12 after a three-year pandemic-related hiatus.
