We are proud to announce that this year’s Thunder Bay Historical Film Festival will showcase two of our films and a trailer for our upcoming production.

🎥 Hollywood Dreams
Episode 2 of The View From Up Here, produced by Dr. Ron Harpelle. The series features Dr. Tom Peotto from the Department of History and highlights the talents of several faculty and alumni at Lakehead University.

🎥 Shipping News
A short film from the Reel Memories Project led by Dr. Ron Harpelle and produced and edited by Dr. Ligia Simba Bolaños. It uses clips from Thunder Bay’s nightly television news between 1960 and 1980, offering glimpses of the waterfront and the grain industry.

🎥 Wings of Time
A three minute trailer offering an early look at our upcoming film inspired by the Wings of Time event in Thunder Bay. It shares personal stories connected to the city’s aviation heritage and pairs them with event footage.

We are proud to see work created by our members included in this year’s festival.
They will be shown alongside a range of other regional productions.

A Spin in Time

🌸"A Spin in Time" is a poignant short film that follows John and Mary Hart, an elderly couple who have spent their lives running a small laundromat together. As Mary's dementia progresses, the once-vibrant woman who greeted every customer with warmth and kept everything in perfect order slowly disappears, leaving John to care for both his wife and their failing business. Through contrasting montages of cherished memories and painful present realities, the film explores the heartbreaking journey of loving someone who no longer remembers you. Ultimately, "A Spin in Time" is a tender meditation on devotion, memory, and the quiet heroism of caregivers who choose to stay even when recognition fades, honoring the profound truth that love's greatest expression lies not in being remembered, but in the unwavering decision to remain present.
