Like many hoteliers, Garrett Turta got his first taste of the hotel business when, as a teenager, he performed a bunch of odd jobs at his father’s hotel. “I remember my dad asking what I wanted to do, and I said I liked working in the hotel. After highschool, I went to SAIT in Calgary for Hotel and Restaurant Administration, and the rest, as they say, is history.”

Kostuch Media Ltd., publisher of industry magazines Foodservice and Hospitality and Hotelier, has announced the 2025 winners of its prestigious Pinnacle Awards, recognizing excellence in the hospitality industry.
The 11 awards will be presented at a gala luncheon on December 5 at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto.

The Rosanna Caira Lifetime Achievement Awards are being presented to Chef Bruno Marti for Foodservice and Hospitality and Heather McCrory for Hotelier.

Company of the Year honours are being presented to Quebec-based Pür & Simple for Foodservice and Hospitality and Manga Hotels for Hotelier.

Other category winners for Foodservice and Hospitality include Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE) for Regional Company of the Year, Kitchen Table Group for Independent Restaurateur of the Year, Patrick Kriss for Chef of the Year and Nella Cutlery for Supplier of the Year.

On the hotel side, this year’s Regional Company of the Year is Evergreen Hospitality Group, while the King Edward Hotel’s Patrick Cappa has been named Hotelier of the Year. Supplier of the Year honours go to Shurway Contracting.

For the September issue of Hotelier Magazine, our Editor & Publisher, Rosanna Caira, shares how Canada’s tourism sector is on track for record growth, with the WTTC forecasting nearly $183 billion in economic contribution and 1.8 million jobs in 2025. Domestic spending remains the driving force, set to climb to almost $104 billion, while international visitor spending continues to recover, nearing pre-pandemic levels. But despite this positive momentum, WTTC warns that shifting travel patterns - particularly declining arrivals from the U.S. - pose risks, making it critical for Canada to invest in marketing, accessibility, and visitor experience to stay competitive.⁠
