Dear Community Members,

Since independence, the Lagboqol South Ward seat formerly the councillor position and now MCA has peacefully rotated between our brothers Gari kombe (GK) and Makabul (MK), each serving one term. This was never a matter of entitlement, but a living expression of respect, equity, and brotherhood. That history is our pride, not a weakness to be manipulated.

Yet today, we hear disturbing whispers: that in the name of securing higher offices, we must "sacrifice" this seat—effectively sidelining a community that has stood shoulder to shoulder in all seasons. Let us say this without hesitation: political survival should never come at the cost of dignity, trust, and unity. We reject any plan rooted in exclusion or selfish ambition.

Equally concerning is the narrative developing around the Habaswein Ward seat. Efforts to fracture our vote and weaken our historical stronghold are not just tactical errors—they are betrayals. For too long, we have lost this seat due to internal sabotage. We cannot afford a third loss caused not by opposition strength, but by our own disunity. Those perpetuating this sabotage must be held accountable.

Somali Journalist’s Bid for Kenya’s Deputy Presidency Went Largely Unnoticed

A Somali journalist and media strategist from Kenya’s Garissa County quietly applied to become the country’s next Deputy President last year, Kanoni Media has found.

Mr. Yunis Dekow submitted his expression of interest to President William Ruto on October 10, 2024, shortly after the impeachment of then-Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

In his letter, Dekow outlined a vision centered on integrity, public service, and the inclusion of underrepresented voices in national leadership.

“I firmly believe that my experience and perspective will allow me to contribute meaningfully to your administration, helping to advance the vision of a united, prosperous, and equitable Kenya,” he wrote.

Kenya’s constitution allows the president to nominate a replacement for a vacant deputy presidency, subject to approval by parliament.

Citizens may also formally express interest in the position by writing to the head of state.

Dekow, born in the 1990s and raised in Garissa, has more than a decade of experience in journalism and media strategy.

His career has spanned nine radio stations, two newspapers, and three television networks across East Africa.

He has also worked with the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM), and the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).

In addition to founding Royal Halann, a Nairobi-based media consultancy, Dekow serves as Treasurer of the Crime Journalists Association of Kenya.

He says he meets all constitutional requirements for the deputy presidency, including being a Kenyan citizen by birth, holding a university degree, and meeting the leadership and integrity standards under Chapter Six of the Constitution.

Political analyst Solomon Mogere describes Dekow’s move as an example of “a generational shift in Kenyan politics,” pointing to a rising demand for youthful and reform-minded leaders.

Members of Kenya’s Somali community, to which Dekow belongs, have historically been excluded from the country’s highest political offices.

His candidacy, though overlooked in 2024, is now being revisited as part of a broader conversation about diversity and representation in Kenyan politics.

In every functioning democracy, elections are not merely a process — they are a promise. A promise that every voice counts, every vote matters, and every citizen has a fair stake in shaping the future. Yet this promise is constantly under threat when fairness is compromised by favouritism, political manipulation, or lack of transparency.

Negotiated democracy can be a tool for stability. It emphasizes dialogue, power-sharing, and inclusive governance.

Mk Family in Garissa Endorses Hon. Dr. Mia Mia for Garissa Township 2027

The Mk family in Garissa has officially endorsed Hon. Dr. Mia Mia for the Garissa Township parliamentary seat in the upcoming 2027 general elections. In a strongly worded statement, the family voiced frustrations over what they described as years of electoral manipulation and disenfranchisement.

According to the family, their votes have repeatedly been misused, with their voting rights allegedly transferred from Garissa Township to Wajir South without their consent. This, they say, has denied them their rightful representation in Garissa.
