Authorities say deputies responded to a domestic violence call on the 12300 block of Hollyhock Drive when the suspect opened fire, striking Deputy Andrew Nuñez in the head. The deputy was rushed to the hospital but later pronounced dead.

The suspect then sped away on a motorcycle, prompting a tense pursuit that ended when an off-duty deputy performed a “legal intervention,” striking the suspect’s bike. The chase forced the shutdown of all eastbound lanes on the 210 Freeway between Mountain Ave and Campus Ave, leaving traffic at a standstill for miles.
