🇺🇸 NEW YORK WANTS CANADIAN TOURISTS BACK — AND BUFFALO IS FEELING THE CHANGE

🚨 CANADIANS USED TO CROSS THE BORDER FOR SHOPPING, FOOD AND WEEKEND TRIPS WITHOUT THINKING TWICE.

For years, a quick trip from Ontario to Buffalo felt almost routine.

Shopping at American stores. 🛍️
Going out for dinner. 🍽️
Attending a Bills or Sabres game. 🏈🏒
Spending a weekend exploring Western New York.

But lately, that relationship has changed.

New York has launched the “NY Loves Canada” initiative, offering promotions designed to encourage Canadian travelers to return.

According to recent reporting, Canadian visitor spending in New York State dropped by roughly $480 million in 2025, while Niagara County also experienced a decline in tourism spending connected to Canadian visitors.

At the same time, Buffalo has managed to grow its overall tourism economy, helped partly by attracting more travelers from other U.S. markets.

And that raises a bigger question:

🇨🇦 HAVE CANADIANS SIMPLY CHANGED THEIR TRAVEL HABITS?

For some people, crossing the border is still completely normal.

But others are choosing to vacation within Canada—or spending their travel money in Mexico, Europe and other destinations.

And discounts alone may not necessarily bring everyone back.

🔥 LET'S HEAR FROM ONTARIO:

Are you still traveling to Buffalo or other parts of New York?

If you've stopped going, what would convince you to return?

And for people who recently visited Buffalo:

Did you feel the experience was worth crossing the border?

🇨🇦🇺🇸 THE U.S. WANTS CANADIAN TOURISTS BACK — BUT MANY CANADIANS AREN’T READY TO RETURN

🔥 WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A COUNTRY STARTS LOSING ONE OF ITS MOST LOYAL GROUPS OF TOURISTS?

For years, crossing the U.S. border was almost routine for millions of Canadians.

A weekend shopping trip to Buffalo. 🛍️
A getaway to New York. 🗽
A family vacation in Florida. 🌴
A few exciting days in Las Vegas. 🎰

But something has changed.

Canadian travel to the United States dropped sharply in 2025. According to AP, trips by Canadian residents to the U.S. fell about 25%, while related spending declined by roughly US$2.4 billion. American tourism destinations are now trying to win Canadian visitors back with promotions and special offers.

🇨🇦 BUT WHAT IF DISCOUNTS AREN’T ENOUGH?

For some Canadians, the decision is no longer simply about finding a cheaper hotel or getting a good shopping deal.

Political and trade tensions between the two countries have also affected travel sentiment, with some Canadians choosing to spend their vacation money elsewhere.

Some people say:

“Politics won’t stop me from visiting a country I enjoy.”

Others feel differently:

“If I’m spending thousands of dollars on a vacation, I can choose where that money goes.”

And that’s where the debate gets interesting.

Imagine Buffalo hotels offering major discounts.

Imagine cheaper attractions in New York.

Imagine Florida resorts creating special deals specifically for Canadians.

🤔 WOULD THAT BE ENOUGH TO BRING YOU BACK?

🇨🇦 CANADIANS: Would an amazing deal convince you to vacation in the United States again?

🇺🇸 AMERICANS: Do you think U.S. destinations should do more to welcome Canadian travelers back?

👇 IF YOU HAD $3,000 FOR YOUR NEXT VACATION, WHERE WOULD YOU SPEND IT — USA, CANADA, MEXICO OR EUROPE?

ARE INFLUENCERS BECOMING MORE POWERFUL THAN TRADITIONAL CELEBRITIES?

🔥 YOU DON'T NEED HOLLYWOOD ANYMORE. YOU NEED A PHONE, AN AUDIENCE AND SOMETHING PEOPLE CAN'T STOP WATCHING.

For generations, celebrity usually required an industry.

Hollywood studios created movie stars.

Record labels created music stars.

Television networks created personalities.

Today?

Someone can start filming from their bedroom and potentially build an audience bigger than that of a traditional celebrity.

Major sporting events now actively work with creators because influencers can bring enormous online audiences. The US Open, for example, issued roughly 100 creator credentials this year as it expanded its efforts to connect tennis with social-media culture.

And perhaps that's actually democratic.

The internet removed some of the old gatekeepers.

Ordinary people can build businesses without waiting for Hollywood to choose them.

But there's another side.

Traditional media has editors, producers and professional standards.

Online, a creator can potentially reach millions before anyone checks whether what they're saying is accurate.

So maybe influencers haven't simply become the new celebrities.

They've become their own media companies.

🔥 IS THAT A GOOD THING?

Would you trust your favorite influencer more than a Hollywood celebrity?

And who has more influence over what people buy today?

👇 CELEBRITIES or INFLUENCERS?

SHOULD BRANDS IMMEDIATELY DROP AN INFLUENCER AFTER A CONTROVERSY?

🔥 ONE VIRAL SCANDAL. ONE MILLION ANGRY COMMENTS. THE SPONSORS START DISAPPEARING.

We've seen versions of this pattern repeatedly.

An influencer becomes controversial.

People tag their sponsors.

“DROP THEM!”

The company faces pressure.

And sometimes a business relationship ends incredibly quickly.

But here's the uncomfortable question:

Should a company make a major decision because social media is angry?

One side says YES.

A company chooses who represents its image.

If a creator's behavior conflicts with the company's values, the company has every right to walk away.

But the other side argues:

WAIT FOR THE FACTS.

Internet outrage can move faster than accurate information.

A short clip might lack context.

An allegation isn't automatically proof.

And sometimes the first version of a viral story isn't the complete one.

We've also seen brands face consequences when creator partnerships themselves generate backlash, illustrating why companies increasingly need clear expectations and oversight.

Maybe companies shouldn't automatically defend influencers.

But perhaps they shouldn't automatically condemn them either.

🔥 WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU OWNED THE COMPANY?

Immediately cancel the contract?

Pause the partnership while investigating?

Or stand behind the creator until facts are established?

ONE MISTAKE. ONE VIDEO. MILLIONS OF PEOPLE JUDGING YOU.

📱 THE INTERNET CAN TURN AN ORDINARY PERSON INTO THE MOST HATED PERSON ONLINE BEFORE DINNER.

Think about how different life was before smartphones.

You could have an embarrassing moment.

Maybe twenty people witnessed it.

Eventually everyone moved on.

Today?

Someone records it.

Someone uploads it.

Millions watch.

Commentary accounts discuss it.

People who have never met you decide what kind of person you are.

And sometimes legitimate accountability is necessary.

But there is an enormous difference between saying:

“What this person did was wrong.”

and deciding:

“Let's destroy this person's entire life.”

Famous people experience this constantly.

But ordinary people can now experience it too.

That's what scares me most about modern internet culture:

You don't need to be famous to become famous for the worst moment of your life.

🔥 SO WHERE IS THE LINE?

Should people be held accountable for bad behavior?

Absolutely.

But should one mistake follow someone online forever?

WOULD YOU TAKE ADVICE FROM AN INFLUENCER WHO ISN'T EVEN REAL?

🚨 THE BEAUTIFUL HOUSE ISN'T REAL. THE VACATION NEVER HAPPENED. AND THE INFLUENCER MAY NOT EVEN EXIST.

Welcome to the age of AI influencers.

And this raises one of the strangest questions in modern social media.

Imagine a virtual creator recommending:

Skincare.

Clothes.

Restaurants.

Travel destinations.

But then ask yourself:

How can someone recommend a vacation they've never taken?

How can they describe a morning routine they don't actually have?

At the same time, defenders might say:

“What's the difference? Human influencers already use scripts, editing, filters and professional advertising.”

And that's where this debate gets fascinating.

Maybe the real question isn't whether an influencer is human.

Maybe it's whether audiences KNOW what they're looking at.

If something is clearly labeled as AI, should consumers be free to decide whether they trust it?

🔥 YOUR OPINION:

Would you follow an AI influencer?

Would you buy something they recommended?

Or does influencing require REAL HUMAN EXPERIENCE?

YOU PAY TO ATTEND. THEY GET PAID TO BE THERE. IS THAT FAIR?

😳 IMAGINE SAVING FOR MONTHS TO ATTEND AN EVENT…

You buy your ticket.

Transportation.

Food.

Maybe a hotel.

The person sitting near you?

They might have been invited.

And potentially paid to post about being there.

That's increasingly part of influencer marketing around major events. Business Insider reports that some creators connected with US Open campaigns can command six-figure payments, while the tournament has simultaneously faced criticism over disruptive content creation.

Now here's where opinions get interesting.

Some people say:

“Don't be jealous. Influencers built an audience, and brands are paying for access to that audience.”

That's a legitimate business argument.

But others say:

“Fine—but paying customers shouldn't receive a worse experience because someone else is creating advertising.”

And I think THAT distinction matters.

The influencer isn't necessarily getting paid to have fun.

They're being paid because their audience has commercial value.

But should that commercial activity ever interfere with ordinary customers?

🔥 LET'S DEBATE:

You paid $500 for your ticket.

An influencer beside you got in free and was paid to create content.

Would that bother you?

👇 YES or NO—and WHY?

ALIX EARLE VS. ALEX COOPER — WHEN A BUSINESS RELATIONSHIP BECOMES PERSONAL

🚨 SOMETIMES THE WORST FALLING-OUT ISN'T WITH AN EX. IT'S WITH SOMEONE YOU ONCE TRUSTED.

The Alix Earle–Alex Cooper feud is back in the spotlight following Earle Meets World.

Earle has publicly made serious criticisms of her former working relationship with Cooper and the Unwell network, saying she felt unsupported and mistreated. Cooper has previously disputed aspects of the narrative surrounding their fallout. Their competing accounts have fueled a huge online debate.

But forget celebrity names for a moment.

Have you ever worked with someone you admired…

and then discovered that working with them was completely different from knowing them socially?

It happens in ordinary workplaces too.

Friends start businesses together.

Family members become business partners.

Someone gets promoted over someone else.

Money enters the picture.

Suddenly:

A friendship becomes a contract.

And expectations that were never discussed become enormous problems.

That's why I think there's a lesson here beyond influencer gossip:

ADMIRING SOMEONE DOESN'T NECESSARILY MEAN YOU'LL WORK WELL TOGETHER.

🔥 YOUR TURN:

Would you ever start a business with your best friend?

And if a friendship ends because of business, should the details remain private—or does each person have the right to publicly tell their side?

. COCO GAUFF'S MESSAGE HAS PEOPLE ASKING: IS THE PROBLEM REALLY INFLUENCERS… OR BAD BEHAVIOR?

📱 MAYBE WE'RE BLAMING AN ENTIRE PROFESSION FOR WHAT A FEW PEOPLE ARE DOING.

That's another side of the US Open controversy worth discussing.

Players including Coco Gauff and Naomi Osaka have emphasized respecting tennis etiquette while also recognizing that new audiences can be good for the sport. Meanwhile, reporting notes that some of the people involved in disruptive incidents weren't actually officially credentialed creators.

That changes the conversation.

Because we've all experienced this outside social media.

One rude tourist doesn't represent every tourist.

One inconsiderate customer doesn't represent every customer.

So why should one badly behaved influencer represent millions of creators?

Maybe the problem isn't:

INFLUENCERS.

Maybe the problem is:

ENTITLEMENT.

And entitlement existed long before TikTok.

🔥 BUT HERE'S ANOTHER QUESTION:

If a company invites creators to an event, should the company be responsible for explaining the rules beforehand?

Or should adults already know how to behave respectfully in public?

👇 WHO IS RESPONSIBLE: THE CREATOR, THE BRAND OR BOTH?

🔥 1. WIMBLEDON IS DRAWING A LINE WITH INFLUENCERS — AND PEOPLE HAVE A LOT TO SAY

🎾 WHEN DID ATTENDING A SPORTING EVENT BECOME MORE ABOUT BEING SEEN THAN WATCHING THE SPORT?

The influencer controversy at the US Open has started a much bigger conversation.

After complaints about noise, filming and ring lights during matches, Wimbledon says it has no plans to create special influencer accreditation for its 2027 tournament. Organizers are emphasizing existing rules designed to prevent disruptions.

And people seem divided.

One side argues:

“Influencers bring younger audiences to sports. Why wouldn't tournaments welcome them?”

The other side has a completely different question:

“Why should having followers give anyone special treatment?”

And maybe THAT is the real issue.

Most people aren't angry because someone takes a picture.

They're frustrated when creating that picture interferes with everybody else's experience.

Imagine paying hundreds of dollars for a ticket while someone beside you repeatedly films, talks or tries to capture the perfect shot.

But creators might respond:

“This is my job. I'm working.”

Fair enough.

But millions of people have jobs—and having a job doesn't normally mean everyone around you has to accommodate it.

🔥 WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Should influencers receive special access at major events?

Or should the same rules apply to everybody, regardless of follower count?
