Today is World Hunger Day. 🌍 Let's think about the big picture.

"It’s important to donate money, food, or other resources to food banks or community gardens or community food centres—of course it is. But it’s even more important to recognize that these are short-term, stop-gap, band-aid solutions to the problem of food insecurity. More is required of us than making “shelf stable” donations. Consider volunteering at a local hot meal program—such as a soup kitchen—on a regular basis, not just Christmas Day, and take the opportunity to talk to people using the services, hear their stories, and recognize their humanity. Look for organizations that do anti-poverty advocacy work and serve broader community needs." —Dian Day, co-creator of Shy Cat and the Stuff-the-Bus Challenge, with Amanda White

Say hello to this cozy coven of YA witches in a fun new graphic novel series for teens: The Secret Society of the Willbrook Witches, written and illustrated by Camille Perron-Cormier.

Coming this October—order now from your favourite bookseller!

Andrea’s first year at university gets off to a strange start when she discovers she may be a witch!

Andrea is nervous to start university in the small town of Willbrook. Introverted and shy, she’s living away from home for the first time and finding it hard to fit in. When Andrea meets Elaine and Sybil, they quickly welcome her to their group. Andrea might have finally found her people, but they have a huge secret…they’re witches—and they think Andrea is too.

As Elaine and Sybil teach her how to harness her powers, she finally starts to feel like she belongs. But the girls learn there’s another witch on campus, and this one might not have good intentions. Soon, Andrea learns that the world of magic is much bigger than she imagined.

"The Secret Society of the Willbrook Witches is a funny, relatable, and deeply charming story. A perfect balance between teenage struggles and a dash of magic, this story makes me wish I was best friends with the girls in Rosemary and Toad. Readers will definitely want to follow along for more of their adventures!" —Vivian Zhou, creator of the Atana graphic novel series

We’re thrilled to introduce Poh Poh’s Sword, a captivating immigration story written by Julia Hune-Brown (who based this debut book on a documentary she made about her grandmother for CBC radio) and vibrantly illustrated by Hayley Lowe.

Julie’s grandmother dances with a sword. She swirls and leaps to the sound of Chinese opera music. When she was young, Poh Poh left her home and everything she knew to travel across the ocean to North America—what they knew as Gold Mountain. The one thing she brought was her sword, but she did not use it to fight. She used it to forge a new life for her family.

Poh Poh’s sword will be available this fall on September 15, 2026.

A neglected dog brings two misfits together in this adventure for middle schoolers who love animals and a story where the kids take charge.

For Caleb, September is off to a rough start. His parents have split up, he’s moved to a new town, and—worst of all—he misses his dog. Valery is his new neighbor, but apart from being in the same class, they have nothing in common. Valery is lonely and hurt since her best friend abandoned her for a boy, and she thinks Caleb is just obnoxious. Under normal circumstances, they’d never be friends. But these aren’t normal circumstances.

There’s a hurricane coming, and Valery and Caleb are both worried for Lyra, their neighbor’s terribly neglected dog. None of the adults in their lives will do anything, so they hatch a plan to rescue her themselves, no matter how risky.

The Dog Heist by Dani Jansen publishes on September 1, 2026. Cover design by Katy Dockrill. Pre-order the book from your local bookstore! For ages 9-12.
