Presenting our newest designer: my very talented & opinionated niece. She wanted a saree for her birthday shirt of course; she's dreamt of sarees ever since we read 'How To Tie A Saree' by Darshana Khiani. She also noted, however, that most 'rajkumaris' (princesses) wear Lehengas, so I should make that. So, that's what I'm doing 😀

Festivals are SO much work... but when I handed bitiya her fourth Bindi because she wanted "aur", I wouldn't have it any other way ❤️. They want everything the grown ups have, and you hand them all the things, and some stories. Stories of their great grandparents, stories of your childhood. All those hours surrounded by fabric, the smells of moth balls and metallic godrej almirahs, glass bangles, bindis, delicate jewellery, intricate shawls, mithai, and all the sweet chaos that enveloped them. And suddenly I feel like a hole's opened up in the fabric of Space-Time, and I kiss my nani's coconut scented hair a kiss, I kiss my young daadi's almond scented hair , and they're smiling. I'm in two places at once. Just then, I feel a chubby tap on my thigh; "kaala" she says. "Nahin" there will be no eyeliner on your little lids tonight Beti 😘
