This is the sounds that puts me at ease instantly.

Six years ago, if you asked me whether I’d live in Canada’s remote hamlets, I would’ve laughed and said no. Life had other plans. I’ve since lived in two—one tucked away in the Northwest Territories and now here in Nunavut. Along the way, my perspective has shifted. Happiness feels fleeting, but peace is lasting. Every day, I’m learning how to find it, and more importantly, how to protect it.

I’m calmer now. I’ve stopped chasing city lights and started embracing the northern lights. Winter is long, and its frozen landscapes often feel otherworldly—silent, harsh, and beautiful all at once. Yet when the season ends, the gratitude that follows is overwhelming, a reminder that peace often hides in the places we least expect.

Up here, life teaches patience. The seasons shape your rhythm, the land humbles your spirit, and the silence clears your mind. In the stillness of the North, I’ve learned that peace isn’t something you stumble upon—it’s something you choose, and something worth guarding.
