Sturgeon Falls, located on the Sturgeon River, grew from a 19th-century trading post where Francophone, First Nations, and Anglophone settlers exchanged goods and culture.

Today, residents draw on that shared past to protect French-language education, embrace new ideas, and nurture a close-knit community that knows where it comes from and where it’s headed.

After a trip to the South of France, sisters Jessica Ridding and Emma Greasley returned with a vision. Drawing on their experience abroad, the co-owners of Purple Hill Lavender Farm converted their family farm in Creemore into a seasonal lavender destination. The farm now attracts thousands of visitors each summer and has become a key part of the Creemore’s growing agri-tourism economy.

“FIXED!”, a short doc by Cat Mills, offers a light-hearted look at Repair Café Toronto, a grassroots volunteer-run group tackling waste through repair.

The movement began in Amsterdam in 2009 and has since grown to over 2,000 Repair Cafés worldwide, helping divert hundreds of thousands of kilograms of waste from landfills.

In Toronto, volunteers have already kept more than 32,000 pounds of broken items out of the trash by fixing them for free.

This film is a tribute to community, skill-sharing, and rethinking our throwaway culture.

This June, explore the stories, achievements, and ongoing challenges of Canada’s 2SLGBTQI+ communities through our free documentaries, articles, and videos. Our Pride hub examines the roots of Pride, the impact of q***r representation, and the work still ahead.

As part of this month’s programming, we will be premiering is a “Parade: Q***r Acts of Love & Resistance’ a powerful new documentary that takes viewers to the front lines of Canada’s q***r-liberation movement. Featuring rarely seen archival footage and first-person accounts, the film traces pivotal moments from police raids and early drag shows to community organizing and debates in Parliament. It honours the activists and elders whose courage secured the rights we enjoy today and reminds us how quickly those rights can be threatened.
