The arts connect, inspire, and transform, your support makes it all possible. Native Women in the Arts is dedicated to supporting multi-disciplinary artistic expression by connecting, training and presenting emerging, mid-career and established artists whose work reflects a commitment to art, culture, community, and the advancement of Indigenous people.

Your donation directly supports artist fees, mentorships, and community programs that centre Indigenous creativity, culture, and dialogue, sustaining the spaces where Indigenous artistry can continue to flourish. Every contribution, big or small, helps nurture a vibrant and resilient creative community.

For decades, Thomas King was considered to be one of the most prominent Indigenous authors and creators. The news that he has no Indigenous ancestry came as a shock to many people this week.

But not to Jesse Wente, a prominent Anishinaabe writer and storyteller-in-residence at Toronto Metropolitan University. Wente worked as a producer on the screen adaptation of King’s book, "The Inconvenient Indian." Though ancestry issues came up for other people working on the film, King's never came into question. But Wente had wondered about his friend’s ancestry.

The confirmation that King is not Indigenous still emotionally affected Wente, even if he wasn't totally surprised by it. Today on Commotion, he joins Elamin Abdelmahmoud to work through the complicated feelings and how he’s grappling with the fallout.

Repost for Three Sisters Market!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NOVEMBER 28TH, 2025

THREE SISTERS MARKET MANIDOO-GIIZOONS
FASHION SHOW AND MARKET

Three Sisters Indigenous Crafts Market is a travelling pop-up market and grassroots collective based in Toronto, Ontario, that hosts periodic events at various locations rather than operating a single, permanent storefront.
Please contact Siera to set up interviews with designers or vendors, miigwetch (thank you) We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming Show and Market.

Upcoming Market Information
Our collective hosts various pop-up markets, often at community centers or other venues in the Greater Toronto Area. You should check our social media channels for the most current
schedule.

*Manidoo-Giizoons Fashion Show and Market: This event is scheduled for Sunday, December 14, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the 58 Cecil Community Centre (near Kensington Market, downtown Toronto). It will feature local Indigenous vendors and a fashion show.

Who we are:
Mission: As a collective we support Indigenous-owned and operated businesses and verify vendors to ensure customers are purchasing authentic, Indigenous-made products, not "Indigenous-inspired" items.
Entry: All markets offer free entry.
Payment: While most vendors accept card or e-transfer, bringing cash is recommended as there is no ATM on-site at many venues.

Miigwetch/ Thank you,

Siera Hancharyk
Market Director
